Sony tried their best to please during their E3 2013 Sony press conference by showing off their hottest PlayStation 4 titles, including a tease for Kingdom Hearts III.
Sony had everything to lose at the E3 2013 Sony press conference. Thankfully, they were able to pull through with some amazing titles and strong pledges to please even the toughest critics.
In the last press conference of the day, Sony made us wait for a little while before kicking off the show.
PlayStation 4
The console’s design was finally revealed. The PS4 will cost $399/€399/£349.
The PlayStation 4 will not impose any restrictions on used games, and games will not require an Internet connection to play or authenticate.
Kingdom Hearts III was finally announced for the PlayStation 4. A short teaser trailer was used to unveil the game. The trailer ended with the words “now in development.”
A first look at Destiny‘s gameplay was shown, in addition to this trailer for the post-apocalyptic FPS:
An impressive new chunk of gameplay footage of Watch Dogs also featured in Sony’s presentation.
Santa Monica Studio and Ready At Dawn studios showed off a new IP – a steampunk title – The Order: 1886, a PS4 exclusive.
A concept trailer, The Dark Sorcerer, displayed the potential of PS4’s power, with some near-photorealistic graphics. Is it veering into uncanny valley, or is it a welcome step forward?
A debut trailer for Mad Max premiered at Sony’s show. Avalanche Studios and Warner Bros. are working together to produce the game.
Zenimax’s MMO, The Elder Scrolls Online, will also head to PS4 in Spring 2014, it was announced.
There were also trailers for Killzone: Shadow Fall (released at PS4’s launch) and inFAMOUS: Second Son (Q1 2014). One of the more interesting games highlighted in the initial PS4 reveal, Knack, also got a second trailer.
Two devs from Supergiant Games (Bastion) introduced a trailer for its next game Transistor, which debuts on the PS4 early next year. We’ve already seen some lengthy alpha footage for Transistor, but a new trailer is always welcome. Supergiant Games led a stellar lineup of indie devs in sharing the stage with Sony’s big guns.
PlayStation 3
Coming to the PS3 this year are titles such as Puppeteer, Rain, Gran Turismo 6 and Beyond: Two Souls.
A trailer for Batman: Arkham Origins was also shown, to be released on October 25.
PlayStation Vita
Sony revealed that the average US Vita owner has purchased over 10 games. 85 titles are expected to launch before the end of this year, including Batman: Arkham Origins and Tearaway.
The new episode of The Walking Dead series of games is also coming to Vita.
