Another addition to the Percy Jackson: Sea of Monsters compendium has landed online, showing one of the creatures from the movie: Charybdis, the sea monster.
Charybdis is one of the mythical monsters that will be featured in Percy Jackson: Sea of Monsters. As the picture says, Charybdis has the ability to create huge whirlpools and is often the bane of many a traveler’s existence. And just like we see in the trailer, Charybdis is capable of swallowing up ships and everyone on board.
Charybdis used to be a Naiad, though she was changed into a monster by Zeus, after she used her power over water to claim land from Zeus’ for her father, Poseidon. According to the mythology, she lives on one side of a narrow passage of water, and Scylla lives on the other, making it difficult to navigate a trajectory without running into one or the other.
In the novel Sea of Monsters, our heroes must enter the Sea of Monsters by passing between these two creatures. Clarisse La Rue, daughter of Ares, is the one that must steer her ironclad between both Charybdis and Scylla in order to get everyone to safety. Clarisse decides she’d rather fight Charybdis than Scylla, and that’s why we see the monster in the trailer.
In the last compendium picture, we saw Percy and Riptide, which features an aged-up version of the prophecy.
Earlier today, we got a great poster of Logan Lerman as Percy Jackson, which featured a simplistic design and his face in profile. Fans seemed much happier with this one than the previous character portrait that showed Percy and Annabeth together.
The marketing team behind Sea of Monsters will be releasing compendium pictures right up until the date the movie hits theatres. These will include characters, monsters, items, and locations from the film.
Percy Jackson: Sea of Monsters opens in theaters August 7, 2013. It stars Logan Lerman as Percy, Alexandra Daddario as Annabeth, Brandon T. Jackson as Grover, and Jake Abel as Luke. Nathan Fillion (Hermes), Stanley Tucci (Dionysus), Leven Rambin (Clarisse), and Douglas Smith (Tyson) also star.
