During Microsoft’s unveiling of the next generation Xbox system called Xbox One, Steven Spielberg announced he’ll be producing a Halo TV show based on the hugely popular video game franchise.
Halo: The TV Series will be a live-action show available as a premium TV series on Xbox Live. Xbox Entertainment Studios is heading up the project. “The Halo universe is an amazing opportunity to be at an intersection where technology and myth-making converge,” said Spielberg in a pre-recorded video message.
No release date or plot details were announced today, but we’re sure they’ll arrive as we inch closer to the Xbox One’s release date. It is expected to debut at the end of this year in time for the holiday season.
Skeptics immediately pointed out the fact that Spielberg also produced Terra Nova for Fox which ended up flopping for the network. Nonetheless, the Halo franchise is huge for Microsoft, and a television show will surely help bolster Xbox Live’s prospects of becoming a place for original television programming.
Xbox One’s unveiling today was a major step forward for Microsoft. The system itself includes 8GB of RAM, USB 3.0, a Blu-ray drive, a 8-core CPU, and a 500GB HDD.
