Actress Shailene Woodley, who plays Tris in Divergent and Hazel in The Fault in Our Stars, is responding to fans’ concerns over her Divergent co-star Ansel Elgort being cast as her love interest in The Fault in Our Stars.
Elgort plays Caleb, who is Tris’ brother. The movie is based on the dystopian young adult novel written by Veronica Roth. The actor’s name was likely thrown into the casting ring after he spent time with Woodley on the set of Divergent. He was one of five actors who auditioned for the role of Gus a little over a week ago.
“I keep joking with Ansel about it,” Woodley told Entertainment Weekly. “I’m like, ‘In a few months, buddy, you’re going to be my lover.’”
Woodley also spoke about why Elgort will be great for the part of Gus in the John Green novel. “Ansel is so good. I’m so excited. He blew it out of the water,” she said in regards to their audition together. “And he’s a real sweetheart. I’m so excited to have him in my life.”
Divergent is currently filming in Chicago and will hit theaters March 21, 2014. The Fault in Our Stars movie appears to be shooting later this year with a release in 2014. With the two leads now cast, decisions on other roles will likely be announced soon.
Do you buy Woodley’s response? As Green pointed out on his Tumblr last week, they are actors and should be able to avoid their brother-sister chemistry from Divergent once work on Fault gets underway.
Thanks, EW.
