At their upfront presentation today, ABC premiered a great first trailer for their new half-hour comedy Super Fun Night, starring Rebel Wilson.
Watch the Super Fun Night trailer below:
The premise: Three friends always spend their evenings inside until one night they finally decide it’s time to get out. “This is probably going to be the best night of our lives,” says Rebel’s character, and the ensuing montage sure looks like it’s an unforgettable evening thanks to her self-deprecating humor.
Wilson and the showrunners (including comedian and talk show host Conan O’Brien) are playing it safe by taking advantage of the actress’ unique sense of comedy that viewers fell in love with during Bridesmaids and Pitch Perfect. It’s rare for us to watch a trailer for a new television show and actually laugh out loud, so we’re definitely looking forward to the show’s premiere later this year.
The problem? Wilson is sporting an American accent. We can’t imagine why they decided to not let her use her signature Australian accent that many moviegoers are already very familiar with. Our best guess is that the network didn’t want to alienate those in the United States who prefer American accents on their primetime television. The Australian accent does slip through every once in a while in the trailer.
How do you think Super Fun Night looks? Do you think Wilson will be able to carry a full season on network primetime television?
Universal is working on Pitch Perfect 2 for a summer 2015 release, and presumably we can look forward to Wilson reprising her role as Fat Amy.
