Joyland by Stephen King has been optioned by Tate Taylor the mastermind behind The Help.
Tate Taylor optioned The Help before anyone had read a word of the book and now he has done the same with Stephen King’s latest novel.
According to Deadline, Taylor has optioned the film to adapt and direct while John Norris will produce.
Joyland is set in a small town North Carolina amusement park in 1973 and tells the story of a college student who moonlights as a carnival worker. There, he confronts the legacy of a vicious murder, the fate of a dying child, and the ways both will forever change his life. This is typical King fare: a creepy setting, a vicious murder, and a character forever altered. The novel will be published under Hard Case Crime with a retro looking cover. King said this about the upcoming novel: “I love crime, I love mysteries, and I love ghosts. That combo made Hard Case Crime the perfect venue for this book, which is one of my favorites. I also loved the paperbacks I grew up with as a kid, and for that reason, we’re going to hold off on e-publishing this one for the time being. Joyland will be coming out in paperback, and folks who want to read it will have to buy the actual book.”
Joyland hits shelves June 4. Does it sound like it will make a good film?
