Over the past 24 hours, a rumor that made its way across Twitter, Tumblr, and Facebook suggested that the Sherlock series 3 air date is set for November 24.

So is it true?

We reached out to PBS, who airs Sherlock in the United States, and they told us that no date has been set for Sherlock series 3 in the United States or United Kingdom at this time.

Now for our speculation: it’s probable that no date will be set until the majority of filming is completed. We know that Sherlock series 3 just began shooting episode 2 and the cast will take a break to attend to other duties before moving on to episode 3. So, we may be waiting a while to know the date.

There’s been speculation that Sherlock series 3 will premiere by the end of 2013 or early 2014 at the latest.

Check out what we know about the episode they’re shooting right now, and also be sure to see these photos depicting Sherlock right after the fall (moderate spoilers).

Here’s an additional bit of good news: we already know that Benedict Cumberbatch (Sherlock) and Martin Freeman (Watson) are signed on for series 4.

We’ll be sure to let you know as soon as the Sherlock series 3 premiere release date is set!

No way would they air it a day after Doctor Who 50th. For viewing reasons, for sanity reasons…

    • Theresa de Lioncourt

When has Moffat ever cared about our sanity

      • Elphaba Thropp

        True, true.

  • SherlockUSA

NOOOOOOOOOOOOO! FALSE HOPE!!!! They need to set a date

  • Ailbhe

I’d be willing to bet it’ll start in early 2014, like Season 2 did in 2012. Could be New Year’s Day again, but I’d definitely think around that time.

Not too sure about this, but it would be really nice.. I mean, Catching Fire comes out on 22 November, Doctor Who on the 23rd, and then Sherlock. It would be an awfully full weekend.

    • SherlockUSA

That would be the best weekend ever!

I hope it is because that is my birthday weekend. Catching Fire, Doctor Who and Sherlock? That would be the best birthday present ever!

You might want to nix that “additional bit of good news” since that has not been confirmed. True, Ben said something to that effect in an interview. He then promptly retracted that statement a day or two later. Nice as it would be to have confirmation that series 4 will in fact happen, we don’t have it. You might want to check your facts.

    • SherlockUSA

Dude, it’s you who have your facts wrong… It has been confirmed that Season 4 will happen. They have already signed on. It’s official.

      • Amy

Hm. And have you seen this confirmed by Moffat? Gatiss? Vertue? Or ever Sherlockology? Because I keep up with all Sherlock news daily, along with following Gatiss, Vertue, and Sherlockology and none of them have confirmed this. All articles that say it was “confirmed” are from March 12th when Ben made that statement. The one he corrected a day or two later. I would post the link to his corrected statement, but Hypable doesn’t seem to be allowing that. You can find it yourself if you search ” Benedict Cumberbatch Interview – Sherlock Series 4″ on YouTube uploaded by Red Carpet News TV. :)

It isn’t a ‘recent’ rumour, certainly not in the last 24 hours. I searched a few weeks ago, and, (though I now know there isn’t an official date) this was the date I was given on many sites…

Sherlockolgy has confirmed this is false, they can’t set a date until filming is actually finished.

  • robert n

lol thank you imdb for clearing the air RECENTLY and dispelling the nasty end of the year rumors it is actually set for september ..http://i43.tinypic.com/qsvymf.png

One, what I believe to be valid point is that regardless as to whether the UK release date turns out to be in November then the US official release wont be till like March, just saying, Sherlock had the same cult following during Series Two and they still didn’t broadcast simultaneously, blame PBS but watching online will be the only option for anyone outside the UK for at least a couple of weeks and at most a few months.
