NBC’s crowning primetime achievement in the past couple of years has undoubtedly been The Voice. So it should come as no surprise that The Voice Kids is in the works.

The New York Post quotes a source that says they are hoping to begin production on the show by the end of the year. Interestingly, casting calls were posted in New York, Los Angeles, and Dallas, but were pulled after producers realized they couldn’t prepare the show in time for shooting at the same time as The Voice’s fifth cycle.

The Voice Kids will use the same stage, but presumably different judges will be employed for the production. The Voice currently enlists Blake Shelton, Usher, Adam Levine, and Shakira. Cee-Lo and Christina Aguilera are expected to return following their break this year.

The Post notes that Germany, Holland and Finland already air their own versions of The Voice Kids, and each has been a success.

Spin offs of talent competitions aimed at kids aren’t always a success, however. American Idol had a kids spin off entitled American Juniors. Even though it had the same production team as Idol, it only lasted one season.

Will you watch The Voice Kids, or do you fear you may get a little overwhelmed with all of The Voice programming? NBC has been purposely churning out new seasons of the show quickly to use it to bring new audiences to the ailing network.
