Zoe Saldana is reportedly in negotiations to play what would be the female lead in Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy, and Robert Redford confirms he’ll be in Captain America’s sequel.
According to THR, if Zoe Saldana joins Guardians of the Galaxy, she would be playing Gamora, the “green-skinned humanoid who is the last of a species that was exterminated by a race known as the Badoon.” She’s reportedly a highly skilled assassin in the comic. If Saldana were to get the part, she would be a very busy actress, with her role in Star Trek Into Darkness coming up soon, along with her part in the Avatar sequels, this would be a lot more motion capture for the well-received actress.
Zoe Saldana would be joining fellow actor Chris Pratt, who has already been cast as the lead in Guardians of the Galaxy, Star-Lord. Guardians of the Galaxy follows a futuristic, alien superhero team protecting the galaxy from evil, led by Peter Quill. The team first appeared in Marvel comics in 1969, but weren’t given their own series until the 1990s. Check out our latest news on Guardians of the Galaxy, as the film will hit theaters August 1, 2014.
In other Marvel news, Robert Redford has confirmed that he will be the “head of S.H.I.E.L.D.” in Captain America: The Winter Soldier, which started filming yesterday. We also got a look at some concept art of Anthony Mackie’s character in the film, The Falcon, and some concept art of the Winter Soldier.
Redford went on to correct a reporter that he wasn’t just a senior S.H.I.E.L.D. member, but the “Head of S.H.I.E.L.D..” which is odd considering Nick Fury, played by Sam Jackson, has been the head of the superhero squad for the last few Marvel films. Robert Redford went on to say, “The Captain America thing is just a very simple thing.”
Redford continued saying that he wished to break from his normal film-path saying, “I wanted to do something different. I wanted to do something just to be different. Something bold, different. And that felt like a good thing to do. That was it, nothing more to it than that. Well, it’s bold in terms of expectations, I guess.”
We look forward to seeing Redford in the role in Captain America’s sequel when it hits theaters next year, and hopefully we’ll get a confirmation from Zoe Saldana as to whether she’s entertaining the idea of taking the role of Gamora in Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy, which is slated to hit theaters in 2014.
