Observant viewers realized that the book in Saturday’s “The Bells of St. John” Doctor Who episode was titled Summer Falls and it was penned by Amelia Williams, A.K.A. Amy Pond. Now you can buy a copy.
@DrWhoBBCBooks tweeted out the information stating, “Don’t miss the new ebook Summer Falls out on Tuesday 2nd April from BBC Books…it will be out on 2nd April and we’ll tweet a link with more info on Tuesday.”
The official summary reads:
In the seaside village of Watchcombe, young Kate is determined to make the most of her last week of summer holiday. But when she discovers a mysterious painting entitled ‘The Lord of Winter’ in a charity shop, it leads her on an adventure she never could have planned. Kate soon realises the old seacape, painted long ago by an eccentric local artist, is actually a puzzle. And with the help of some bizarre new acquaintances – including a museum curator’s magical cat, a miserable neighbour, and a lonely boy – she plans on solving it.
And then, one morning Kate wakes up to a world changed forever. For the Lord of Winter is coming – and Kate has a very important decision to make.
This is the second time in recent Doctor Who history that a book mentioned on the show is then available for purchase. The Melody Malone (A.K.A. River Song) detective story that was a key element in “The Angels Take Manhattan” episode was available for purchase immediately after that episode aired.
The major difference this time is that currently the significance of the book isn’t yet known. The only clue we have is Clara’s assessment of the book in this past Saturday’s episode where she stated, “Eleven’s the best. You’ll cry your eyes out… the good kind of crying.” It’s widely speculated that the “eleven” is symbolic of Matt Smith being the 11th Doctor and somehow later tying into the prophecy that Dorium Maldovar issued in last season’s finale, “On the fields of Trenzalore, at the fall of the eleventh, when no living creature can speak falsely or fail to answer, a Question will be asked, a question that must never, ever be answered.”
Did you buy the Melody Malone novel? Will you buy Summer Falls?
