Battlefield 4 will launch this fall, EA has announced. Kicking off its promotional campaign is 17 minutes of gameplay footage, showing off the impressive power of the Frostbite 3 engine.
Following a series of teasers released in the past week, EA and DICE have officially unveiled the sequel to Battlefield 3 at the Game Developers’ Conference in San Francisco.
The trailer starts with your character, Recker, and his squad trapped in a submerged vehicle. The demo then skips back in time (13:37 minutes earlier, which triggered a heavy sigh from this writer) and shows how Recker and his colleagues ended up in such a sticky situation.
There’s all the usual explosions, helicopter crashes and lens flare that you’d expect from a first-person shooter, but the overriding message that the trailer sends out is how utterly beautiful Battlefield 4 is. Graphics cards everywhere must be shuddering at the thought of running Battlefield 4 on maximum settings – the lighting and the texture quality make the graphics almost photo-realistic.
In addition, DICE and EA have released a TV spot for Battlefield 4.
Last July saw the unofficial, accidental and somewhat unsurprising reveal of Battlefield 4 via an Origin offer, where pre-orders of Medal of Honor Warfighter granted beta access to Battlefield 4.
Battlefield 4 will launch in fall 2013 on PC, PS3 and Xbox 360, two years after Battlefield 3‘s highly successful release. There is no word from EA (yet) on next-gen versions.
What do you hope to see from ‘Battlefield 4’?
