Speaking to the media at the Jameson Empire Awards in London last night, actor Sam Claflin (who plays Finnick) revealed he’s seen a Catching Fire trailer.

We mere fans have yet to see any sort of trailer for the second film in the four-part Hunger Games series, so he must be talking about one that is on the horizon.

Claflin made the comments when he was asked if he’d seen the completed film or any footage from it. “I have not seen it, I’ve seen a trailer may- maybe, maybe! (Laughter) Uh, maybe I shouldn’t have said that but yeah. But I’m very, very proud of this. It’s one of the things I’m really excited to share with the world! It’s a fantastic feat, I think. Francis Lawrence is truly a wonderful director. So to have his touch on this franchise is a great, is a great thing.”

The actor also spoke about the character of Finnick and described him as “a very complex character. From people who’ve read the books, they’ll know that he has his ups and his downs. He’s very much in love with Annie Cresta, this girl who goes crazy from his own district. He gets sort of put into the games to protect and preserve Katniss and her reputation. That’s pretty much my role, I’m a good guy”

Studios tend to time movie trailer releases with big film openings that appeal to the same audience. We’re hoping that the first trailer for Catching Fire is much better than The Hunger Games teaser trailer which was just Katniss running through the woods.

We’ll keep a close eye out for any hints of a forthcoming Catching Fire trailer. Thanks to Mockingjay for the quotes above.

Maybe when “The Host” comes out? Aren’t they from the same studio?

I think it would either be The Host or The MTV movie awards next month.

The Host is way to early and it’s made by a different studio. My guess is the trailer will be released in front of one of the big summer film openings: Man of Steel, Percy Jackson, Mortal Instruments, Wolverine etc.

    MTV Movie Awards?

  • Donna

I assumed we’d be seeing a trailer or teaser at the MTV movie awards in a couple of weeks. Crossing my fingers for it!

I’m guessing it’ll be in front of “The Host”. It’s not too early for a teaser trailer. I’m not expecting it to be the theatrical trailer though. Just like, a short, one and a half minute thing announcing the movie and its release date. Enough to get the audience screaming lol

The Host has already been released, so that won’t happen.

      • Hanna

No it hasn’t. At least not in the US.

And even if it has been released outside of North America, the trailer can still be added on for the North American release. The Avengers was released two weeks before in European markets than in North America. They didn’t have the shawarma mid-credits scene. That was added afterwards, just before the North American release.

I feel like I’m the only who loved the Hunger Games teaser. I thought that the mood set by it was perfect. I still get chills watching it.

      I liked it, too!

It would make sense if it premiered with The Host. Just saying!

We’ll probably get a teaser at the MTV awards, and the full thing with The Mortal Instruments.

I can not wait for November. I’m rereading the books but at a snail pace. Sigh. I used to be able to read for hours on end.
