After yesterday’s successful revival of Veronica Mars, thanks to fans contributing over $2 million for the creation of a movie, fans are turning to their other deceased shows and asking for a comeback.

We’ve seen fans pray for revivals of Gilmore Girls, Firefly, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Charmed, and many others over the past 24 hours.

Responding to pleas on her official Twitter account, Gilmore Girls star Lauren Graham sent out the following tweet yesterday:

The “Amy” Graham is referring to is Amy Sherman-Palladino, the creator of Gilmore Girls.

Could a Gilmore Girls movie or Gilmore Girls television show revival see the light of day thanks to Kickstarter? Our opinion is yes, but it’s easier said than done. For Veronica Mars, Kristen Bell and Rob Thomas had to hold meetings with Warner Bros. first to get them to agree to make the project a reality if $2 million was raised. It’s not as simple as throwing up a Kickstarter and hoping the money shows up.

Warner Bros. may consider other Kickstarter revival opportunities after the Veronica Mars movie hits theaters and they see sale numbers. Since they own Gilmore Girls, the show could very well be on their list of targets.

Gilmore Girls ran for seven seasons on The WB and eventually The CW. It starred Lauren Graham, Alex Bledel, and Melissa McCarthy.

GAHH! This needs to happen. I was so happy when Lauren responded with that! Ill definitely donate for a GG movie!

  • Meg

I loved Gilmore Girls, but it got seven seasons and I’m fine with the ending. Pushing Daisies is the revival I’m pulling for (which, yes, was owned by the WB even though it aired on ABC).

    • fruttivendolo

Considering that Bryan Fuller and the actors have been trying to do something since Pushing Daisies ended, that seems pretty possible. I’d love to see a film, or even just those comics that keep getting delayed. The problem with Gilmore is getting Amy and everyone on board; with PD, you wouldn’t have that issue.

      • http://daydreamsandwhispers.tumblr.com/ Hermione Granger

I just got really confused for a second cause Brian Fuller is a Gilmore Girls character haha

I totally agree!! I feel like Gilmore Girls (as much as I loved it) had an ending and Pushing Daisies was AMAZING and never got a chance to have any sort of closure.

  • Jessica

I think Melissa McCarthy’s new high profile could be the deciding factor. On one hand, having her attached to the project would bring in new fans, but I’d also assume that if they wanted her involved it wouldn’t be cheap. So that’s something to consider.

    • Colin

Possibly, but if she genuinely wants to be involved Melissa (and all the actors) could work for scale.

    • Maria

As much as I love Sookie, a movie could be done without her character. All they really need is Luke, Lorelai, Rory and the grandparents.

Oh my god what I wouldn’t give for a Gilmore Girls movie…

  • http://twitter.com/AntaraC Antara Chowdhury

YES, PLEASE. I want a movie that ends up with Luke and Lorelai being married, Rory being a highly successful journalist, and Rory and Jess getting back together.

    • Crazy-Eight23

Jess? God, no. I liked Tristan and Logan! Tristan is my favorite though, Jess was cool and all, but a jerk.

      • http://twitter.com/AntaraC Antara Chowdhury

Rory and Jess were the most compatible. Yes, Jess was rude and could be a jerk. But he was also sarcastically funny, highly intelligent, and cared a lot about Luke and Rory. Out of all of Rory’s boyfriends, Jess was the only one who shared her love of reading. While common interests aren’t everything, reading was a HUGE part of her life – one of her defining characteristics – and the only person she could bond with over that was Jess. It’s important to remember that Jess had a terrible childhood – growing up in poverty with an absentminded single mother who didn’t give a damn about him – and he had trouble communicating and getting along with others. Dean and Logan had no such hang-ups. (I’m not even bringing Tristan into this because he was never her boyfriend. If you want to talk about jerks, Tristan is a prime example.)

Jess had issues that had nothing to do with his relationship with Rory. At that point in his life, he wasn’t ready to completely be with her because he had to figure himself out. But he gets through his issues, manages to pay Luke back for everything, and even writes a book!! When Jess goes back to Stars Hallow and sees that Rory’s not at Yale, he’s the one who convinces her that she’s making a mistake. Her boyfriend Logan never did, but Jess knew the real Rory, and knew she would regret turning into a kind of socialite who just organizes society functions and hangs out with rich people all day. Jess’ transformation from when he first appeared to when we last saw him was massive. I think that at this point in their adult lives, Rory and Jess would be great together. Jess turned into someone dependable, and I think that this time, he would be there for her.

Regardless of whether or not a movie is ever made (I doubt it will be), literati will always be my Gilmore Girls otp.

  • Hagrid’s Coat

I really hope it happens so we can finally know what the actual ending was supposed to be. Although, if it involves Rory getting back with any one of her previous boyfriends, a lot of people will be disappointed because the fandom is so split on who they like best (I’m on the Jess ship myself).

    • http://daydreamsandwhispers.tumblr.com/ Hermione Granger

I think Jess is by far the most popular option, though. Even Amy definitely implied that they were sort of meant for each other… I think a lot of people who don’t like him say it’s because of his snarky behavior in the beginning, which obviously changes near the end.

And I mean, there’s always going to be people who ship something different than what’s on screen… I mean even with Lorelai there are always going to be those few people who maintain Jason was her true love, just like there will probably always be people who only fly the Harry/Hermione flag. But I mean, that’s what fanfiction is for :)

      • http://twitter.com/Tygridia Tygridia

        1) I hated Jason
        2) Yeah, Jess seamed to be Rory’s perfect counterpart. And on season 6 it was obvious that the story was going in that direction and then… WB ¬¬

        • http://daydreamsandwhispers.tumblr.com/ Hermione Granger

RE: 1) Jason was a weird slimeball who had no emotions, basically his only purpose was for something to occupy Lorelai’s time while Luke broke up with Nicole.

Re: 2) YUP. Actually ASP really liked Jess compared to Logan I think, but then the other people just decided all of the sudden Logan’s a saint and Jess is just gone haha. Actually I read that Milo Ventimiglia didn’t want to come back for the 7th season because Amy wasn’t going to be there and each time he kept coming back because she was creating something new with Jess and growing his character. So.

Jess is actually one of my favorite characters on the whole show, I just can’t.

          • Quendra

I can’t imagine why anyone who’s watched the whole series would not agree that Rory is meant to be with Jess. Both of her other boyfriends were key figures in her darkest moments: affair with a married man and stealing a boat/dropping out of Yale/living with her grandparents. And then there’s Jess who comes back for one night to tell her she’s being an idiot and dating a jerk and the next day she gets her life back together. They were perfect together because they made each other better people.

          • Arial_29

I got to say, Jess was the worst guy, and Logan was just the opposite of Rory,he was not good for her. I love, loved Dean, he was perfect for her.

          • Arial_29

Nope Jess and Logan were not right for Rory. Jess didn’t treat her right and Logan was just a drunken fool. Dean was the perfect guy for her. Or hopefully she finds a new guy that fits just right for her.

          • http://daydreamsandwhispers.tumblr.com/ Hermione Granger

But Jess was a troubled 17 year old at the time, and even when he messed up, he tried to fix it. He’s the only one that actually had character growth. Dean became a slimeball and a cheater and had anger management problems. Even the cast (Alexis included) was pretty adamant that Dean was definitely not the right guy for Rory.

And don’t even get me started on Logan, the borderline alcoholic rich boy.

          • http://twitter.com/AntaraC Antara Chowdhury

this this this, my thoughts exactly

          • http://twitter.com/AntaraC Antara Chowdhury

I just wrote like an entire essay on another comment so I won’t repeat it here, but to sum it up, Jess is not the same person he was when they first went out. If he and Rory dated now, I believe he’d be perfect for her. Dean, on the other hand, was her first love, but he and Rory never had anything in common.

          • http://daydreamsandwhispers.tumblr.com/ Hermione Granger
          • http://twitter.com/Tygridia Tygridia

He is my favourite character. He was a really damaged teen when he appeared in season 2 and he managed to turn his life around in 4 years.

He always made Rory more interesting, and Rory was a good influence on him; they gave balance to each other. AND they had SO MUCH CHEMISTRY!!

I’m sorry the spin-off didn’t work out, but I don’t think that was for me…

      • Hanna

Why would anyone in their right mind think Jason is the right guy for Lorelai?I did like him back then, but he was never the one! It’s always been Luke. If not maybe go with Christopher, but never Jason.
For Rory I always liked Jess the most, Logan was ok, couldn’t stand Dean though. In a movie I would be ok with her finding someone completely new.

Sjfsdlflsdkg. So many feels. Part of me would give up my limbs for this to happen, it’s literally all I dreamed about for, well almost 6 years since the show ended, but then another part of me is hesitant… I mean it’s been so long that it would seem silly to actually SHOW Luke and Lorelai’s wedding, I hope to dear god they didn’t wait six years until after their kiss. By now they should have kids in Kindergarten or something. Plus Rory and Jess have to be together, I won’t accept anything else.

Possible idea though… since it’s been so long they could show important moments through flashbacks sort of (wedding, babies, Rory’s career, Jess, etc) and then have the movie just be a glimpse of their lives at the moment? Maybe something big’s happening in one of their lives… and of course we all are dying to know the words ASP said she knew the show would always end on.

Even so, I think the possibility of this happening is kind of slim :’( and ASP said if she did a movie she’d start where she left off, AKA end of 6th season which would make no sense (even though I didn’t like the 7th season AT ALL, it would be weird). BUT WE CAN DREAM, RIGHT?

YES, miss Gilmore Girls so much!!

  • Meghan

I would cry in glee for a Gilmore Girls movie. I CAN’T WITH THE FEELS. I think it would get a lot of publicity since Melissa McCarthy is so famous now. I NEED IT. It would be interesting to see how successful Rory is. Didn’t she go and follow Obama’s presidential campaign?

  • Caleb

Holy mother of god, what I’d do for a Charmed movie/TV continuation!!!!!!!!!

What we need is another season, not a movie. I want to see an hour of Gilmore Girls each week, for at least one season to show us where are they now in life. We’ll call it the reunion season :)

    • Maria

I’m with you. I think a movie, if it draws enough viewers, could lead to a new season provide that Parenthood is canceled at some point.

  • Samantha

A Gilmore Girls features film is really needed for the show, even a tv movie would be fine with me. The reason is Gilmore Girls unlike some other shows, didn’t know if it was coming back for an 8th season or not. So the ‘series’ finale had to be written as a ‘it could be a series finale, or there could be an 8th season’. So they wrote this half-ending to the series, and found out two days before they started filming the last episode that it would definitely be the last episode. Such a pity that a long running, successful and great show didn’t get to have it’s proper ending for the fans and for the people who made it, unlike Charmed which DID get a renewal after season 7 (they also weren’t sure if they were going to come back) so wrote a half-ending for the series in Season 7 but got to come back for one more year to do the ending they wanted.
