Amongst rumors that original Star Wars characters like Han Solo are coming back with their original actors, Joss Whedon was asked about the idea and if he’d do the same had he directed Star Wars: Episode VII.
“I wouldn’t go back, I’d go forward,” he told Digital Spy while promoting his upcoming film Much Ado About Nothing. “I’d want to create characters that would resonate the way they did, but that’s – not that I don’t want to see them, I’ll be excited to, but I’d also want to explore a very different part of that universe.”
When prompted about bringing back Han Solo specifically, Whedon said “No, that I would never do. Some things may not be rebooted.”
You can watch these same remarks in the video interview below:
Whedon has said in the past that he would’ve been interested in taking on Star Wars had he not been tied up with The Avengers 2. J.J. Abrams will direct Star Wars: Episode VII.
Do you agree with almighty Whedon that bringing back old characters isn’t a good idea? Even if the rumors are true, we still don’t know to what extent the old characters and returning actors will be involved. It could be something as trivial as a cameo, or something more significant comparable to a lead role.
Much Ado About Nothing opens in theaters this June.
