The Walking Dead‘s Scott Gimple has received praise from Robert Kirkman and Danai Gurira with Kirman saying Gimple has “a tremendous voice.” Are you excited for Gimple’s overhaul of The Walking Dead?
With Glenn Mazzara’s time at The Walking Dead almost up, attention has shifted to the impending arrival of Scott Gimple to take over as the show’s primary showrunner. After last week’s 3×12 episode, “Clear” this was the first insight into how Gimple works when left to his own accord.
“I think we’ve got some really exciting times ahead of us under his leadership.”
The episode was hailed as one of the best that The Walking Dead has produced, and since Sunday evening members of the cast and crew of The Walking Dead have leapt at the opportunity to praise Gimple’s work in a series of interviews with Zap2It.
Robert Kirkman, the creator of The Walking Dead and executive producer for the television series, has applauded Gimple by saying, “I think having Scott Gimple come up and become an executive producer and showrunner is gonna provide a very tremendous voice for the show.”
Kirkman also went on to comment, “I think it’s gonna give us a clear path moving forward. He’s been an integral part of the writers room since the beginning of season 2. I think we’ve got some really exciting times ahead of us under his leadership.”
David Alpert, also one of the executive producers for the series commented that Gimple has a, “really amazing vision for where the show goes” and has got the fourth season “fully mapped out.” But, Alpert was sincere in his praise by saying, “He’s collaborative, he’s an amazing writer and amazing producer. We really couldn’t be luckier to have him as our new showrunner.”
With Gimple warming to the praise of his closest allies with in the show, we expect The Walking Dead to go from strength to strength and hopefully have a less fractious relationship than previous showrunners in Mazzara and Frank Darabont.
“I feel we’re poised for greatness for season 4.”
And, with the production crew clearly enjoying Gimple’s work, it is with no surprise that the cast are too, with Danai Gurira also commenting on Gimple’s work. Gurira, who joined the current third season as the samurai sword slaying, Michonne, has been pleased in being involved with many of Gimple’s written episodes.
Gurira said, “He’d be on set and we worked very intimately together. I deeply respect him as a writer and a creative voice. I trust him a great deal, he’s a great artist.”
And to cap off, Greg Nicotero made fantastic predictions regarding The Walking Dead season 4 by saying, “Our team of writers is so great. I feel we’re poised for greatness for season 4. We have a couple new writers that are top notch and I feel like we’re headed to the stars.”
What do you think about the praise Gimple is receiving? Do you miss the days of Darabont’s work? And how do you feel about Mazzara’s time coming to an end?
The Walking Dead returns this Sunday on AMC at 9pm ET/PT for the episode, “Arrow on the Doorpost.”
