Harrison Ford has signed on to play a legendary newscaster opposite Will Ferrell in Anchorman: The Legend Continues.
Ford, who is expected to reprise his role as Han Solo in Star Wars: Episode VII, will play a Tom Brokaw-like character in the upcoming sequel, The Hollywood Reporter has learned.
In recent weeks we’ve learned a lot of news about Anchorman 2, including that Megan Good will play Ron Burgundy’s boss, that the news team will head for New York City, that Kristen Wiig has been cast as Brick’s love interest, and that James Marsden will star as a rival news anchor.
In addition to Farrell, Steve Carell, Paul Rudd, Christina Applegate and David Koechner are all reprising their roles from the original. Judd Apatow is producing with Adam McKay, who co-wrote the script with Farrell, returning to the director’s chair.
Ford, who has experience playing a news anchor in the 2010 comedy Morning Glory, already has a trio of films coming out this year: the Jackie Robinson baseball drama 42, the thriller Paranoia co-starring Liam Hemsworth and Gary Oldman, and the adaptation of Orson Scott Card’s Ender’s Game. Anchorman 2 started filming today in Atlanta and will hit theaters December 20, 2013.
