Pretty Little Liars featured a shocking departure, a possible breakup, and illegal actions in this week’s episode “Out of Sight, Out of Mind.” What follows is a recap, so naturally spoilers are included from this episode.
“Out of Sight, Out of Mind” picks up where last week’s episode left off with Spencer (Troian Bellisario) telling Aria (Lucy Hale) and Emily (Shay Mitchell) about Toby’s (Keegan Allen) involvement. Apparently she knew for a few weeks before telling the girls.
As previewed in a clip, Hanna (Ashley Benson) and her mom (Laura Leighton) argue over calling the cops to admit to running over Detective Wilden (Bryce Johnson). Hanna convinces her mom not to do anything in exchange for her silence.
Aria and Emily have a hard time believing that Toby is on the A Team. It’s hard to think that your friend is evil. Emily takes the dumb route and tries to talk to Toby. Would you believe Spencer?
Aria meets Ezra’s (Ian Harding) son Malcolm in a cute scene that reveals his ex-girlfriend Maggie (Larisa Oleynik) is planning on moving to Rosewood. Poor Aria. She clearly feels uncomfortable in the family setting, but Malcolm and Ezra are both making an effort to include her.
Emily and Hanna search Toby’s loft and Emily lets out her anger at the situation. It looks like Toby gave her the courage to come out, and she cannot give up the idea of his goodness yet. Meanwhile, Maggie and Aria clear the air and Aria seems to adjust to the new situation, even offering to babysit.
Spencer receives a mysterious condolence wreath that indicates that A knows about her confession to her friends. The Pretty Little Liars girls reunite at the coffee-shop for some strategy talk where Spencer delivers her own threat to Mona (Janel Parrish) to back off, and Mona gives it right back to her.
Aria unconvincingly lies to her mom (Holly Marie Combs) about her knowledge of Ezra’s ‘friend’ Maggie. It looks like someone forgot to tell her parents that her boyfriend has a son.
Wilden continues to haunt Ashley while Spencer tries to convince Emily that she will be targeted next. It sounds a bit like crazy talk but, then again, A is crazy. Hanna and Aria babysit Malcolm while trying to figure out Mona’s latest motives. Emily uses her mom’s police connections to try to find Toby’s alter ego E. Lamb while Malcolm injures himself. At the hospital, Ezra is not too happy with Aria, who admits that she’s out of her element.
Spencer follows Mona into the woods while Wilden’s car is mysteriously found in Hanna’s garage. How did that get there?
In another incredulously idiotic moment, Emily drives to meet Toby in a sketchy alley all alone. Little does she know that Spencer just discovered Toby’s dead body in the woods. When she follows Mona, she becomes lost and suffers a breakdown. We know its Toby due to his tattoo. How do you think he died? Do you think they faked it?
Aria confides in her mom about the changes in her life with Ezra. It seems like she is holding onto a relationship that is on its last legs. What do you think? Emily sees a vision of the blonde girl in the red coat enter a warehouse. She encounters Toby’s friend, who knows her name despite her not introducing herself.
Hanna freaks out over the video and decides to let Aria know about her mom’s accident. Emily’s car is broken into, and A leaves her a note that Toby is dead. Hanna and Aria pull off a classic movie move and dump Wilden’s car in the lake. Ashley wants to believe that Wilden is still alive and that it will all blow over, not knowing about Hanna’s car dumping.
The next morning, Spencer is found by park rangers in a distraught state and is taken to the psychiatric ward. To end the thrilling Pretty Little Liars episode, a fisher reels in a cap of Rosewood’s finest.
What did you think of this episode of Pretty Little Liars? Did you agree with Emily’s choices this episode? Can you believe Toby is dead?
