Rumors of Toy Story 4 have been around ever since Tom Hanks said the studio is trying to make it happen, and today an Argentinian news source says the studio has now confirmed the news.

Terra goes so far to say that Tom Hanks (Woody), Tim Allen (Buzz), and Joan Cusack (Jessie) have all been confirmed for the film and a 2015 release is planned.

UPDATE: Disney has told Hypable that they are “investigating the source of this information in South America as nothing has officially been announced.” They have no further comment.

If true, all signs have pointed to this happening for some time. Pixar has kept the Toy Story franchise ticking by creating several short films in their “Toy Story Toons” series, and each one premiered in front of a Disney or Pixar film. In addition, a Toy Story television special Toy Story of Terror is planned for October 2013.

Pixar’s Chief Creative Officer John Lasseter was asked about these rumors back in June 2011, and he did not deny them by any means. “Yeah. I found [Hanks' remarks] very interesting too. Yeah, it was really interesting. He’s uh.. yeah. We haven’t announced anything so can’t really talk – no.”

Toy Story 4 confirmed” trended worldwide on Twitter this morning.

Nooo! Let it be DONE with! The ending to the series was absolutely perfect with the third movie, they don’t need to pull a frigin Land Before Time. -___-

Toy Story 3 was a great ending. There doesn’t need to be a fourth. I’m sure it would be good and everything, but they would be ruining the ending they already set up…

I was going to suggest maybe a prequel on how Andy got all of the toys, but then it hit me.. There wouldn’t be any Buzz in it because Andy got him in the first Toy Story. So definitely no to that idea.

Hehe. Yay. I wasn’t satisfied with 3, even though many were. I want a new trilogy with all the toys, no Andy, and the new caretaker of the toys.

I could copy and paste a hundred no’s in all caps and it still would not be enough.

if they’re gonna make a new toy story movie it should be an spin-off of the characters in the original trilogy. woody & buzz’s story is effectively over. let’s not drag it out.

RIP Pixar. Maybe that’s a little harsh, but I’m really tired of all the sequels. I still believe there’s plenty of creativity there without having to resort to rehashing old ideas. It’s a disservice to the fans as well as the classics they’re continuing to draw from.

It’s clear that this franchise could move in to a new trilogy. Had Toy Story 3 only done well in the box office and not been one of the best animated features of all time, I’m sure they would have put a bow on the series and finished it. I’d like to see a new trilogy with the heart and soul that Toy Story 3 had!

DON’T DO IT, DISNEY. DON’T YOU DARE.

Im glad that they arent going to do this. It’s honestly wayy to soon and they really need to think of another storyline. Pixar/Disney is filled with amazing writers that can think of great new material. Its time to move on.

I always respected Pixar for its willingness to take risks with original stories in a sequel-dominated industry. I also appreciated the studio’s respect for characters and stories. Pixar understood that some stories are best told and left alone. Sure, you CAN make sequels into infinity, but is that what’s really best for the characters or studio? I hate to say it, but all of this has really changed since Lasseter became Disney’s chief creative head, so I’d guess it has something to do with that. it’s such a shame, because the talented artists at that studio are capable of so much more than sequels…
