Dexter‘s comic book debut with Marvel appears as though the February 2013 launch date will be missed, for the second time it has been rumoured.
Giant’s Marvel appear to have delayed the Dexter comic book series for the second time. Although February 2013 is not yet over, a report by BleedingCool comments that, “Now it seems that the first three issues, again, have been delayed, orders cancelled and the information is that the comics will be resolicited again at a later date…”
There has been no official comment from Marvel, so we can only speculate that this news is a rumour.
However, back in November, Marvel did announce that the comic will launch this very month, and will initially start the comics with a five volume edition, with the first edition coming out this month and the second in March. However, with season 8 of Dexter‘s television series currently in pre-production, Jeff Lindsay’s hands may be tied, especially as the television series was brought forward by several months by Showtime.
Jeff Lindsay was quoted as saying on the announcement back in November 2012, “Marvel Comics has always been a place where I felt at home. It has been a very important part of my life, and has always been a wellspring of creative and relevant ideas. I feel like I’m coming home. It is a huge thrill for me to bring Dexter into this very special pantheon.”
The synopsis for the first volume is as follows:
“While keeping his Dark Passenger’s bloodlust–his inner demon–under control, Dexter must stop the latest murderous threat to Miami…the Skid Row Slasher. As this new menace racks up a body count to rival that of Dexter, can Miami’s “darkest” hero save the day and keep his cover intact as a normal, well-adjusted member of society?”
But the questions fans may ask is whether there is any need for a comic book series after mixed reviews regarding the books, and with a very successful television series under its belt over on Showtime. In regards to joining the Marvel ranks, there is a possibility for Dexter to make the transformation into a film, which has been a general transition and popular theme that has happened regularly in the past decade. Even Michael C. Hall has commented about the afterlife of the television series and didn’t rule out the possibility of a film being made.
Hall commented, “You know there’s been talk about that possibility [of a film], but I struggle to see it being worthwhile. I mean, if somebody can put something in front of me that was compelling, I would be excited, sure, but I have trouble imagining it.”
Regardless of whether a film will be made in the long-haul, we’ll be keeping a close eye on whether the Dexter comics do make an appearance this February or whether they have been delayed yet again.
Be sure to keep an eye out on the Marvel comic store pending the release of Dexter volume 1.
