Harry Potter star Rupert Grint appears to have a major television role in the horizon. CBS announced today that he has been cast in the lead role of a comedy pilot entitled Super Clyde.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Super Clyde “centers on a meek, unassuming fast-food worker who decides to become a super hero.”

Grint, who’s never had a regular television role before and has laid pretty low since Deathly Hallows – Part 2 in July 2011, “will play the title role of Clyde, the well-meaning and sweet yet slightly neurotic guy who never feels like he really fits in. The avid comic book reader considers himself a borderline agoraphobic with mild to severe anxiety issues who wishes he were a super hero himself. When Clyde inherits a $100,000 a month inheritance from his long-dead eccentric Uncle Bill, he decides that the cash will be his secret super power and will use it only for good and reward the good-hearted.”

We can definitely see Grint in the role of someone who’s a comic book reader, and this angle where he uses money for good – essentially becoming a super hero – is a very interesting premise.

The comedy is from the mind of Greg Garcia, who created Fox’s Raising Hope.

It’s important to note that the show is currently at the pilot stage. It has not received a full-season order, and likely won’t until the show films its episode. We wish Grint the best and hope to see this go to full season, because we can’t imagine having our Ron on United States television every week!

I AM SO PROUD OF HIM!!! It’ll be really nice seeing him on screen here in the US and hopefully it will prove the naysayers wrong about Rupert being the weakest of the trio. <3

If this has a laugh track I’m gonna cry.

    • Melissa

Does Raising Hope have a laugh track, I wonder? I don’t think it does… Not that they *have* to be similarly made just because its from the same person, but if Raising Hope had a laugh track, I’d be more concerned…

It doesn’t. But I think this new show (if it gets picked up) probably will. While both are by the same guy, the new show would be on CBS and they’re really into multi-cam laugh track-y shows (see: The Big Bang Theory and 2 and a Half Men) CBS doesn’t have any single camera, non-laugh track shows right now, and I don’t think they plan on changing that any time soon.

On TVLINE they say it’s a single-camera project.

WOW!!! From doing obscure films (or almost nothing) to a CBS show! And by Greg Garcia!! Way to go Rupert!! I’m insanely proud of him, I thought he was going to fade into nothingness :[ I know I’m getting my hopes up but I really hope this gets picked up. I need more Rupert!

I am so excited for this!! He would be so good in this role!! I love Raising Hope, so I have complete faith in Greg Garcia. Can’t wait!!

  • ravenclaw1991

HOLY CRAP! This got me insanely excited! Rupert is just plain awesome and I can’t wait to see him in something else.

I wonder if he’ll keep his english accent or not?

    • rachelrae

I also wonder, although I would guess not. Not very many British actors keep their accents in American television. The only exception I can think of is Sherlock in Elementary. Although it’s not just “British” actors; Simon Baker (The Mentalist) is Australian, no?

      • Melissa

He is Australian! But he does an American accent quite well. It remains to be seen (as far as I know) if Rupert can do it well. I remember he did that bit with Josh Horowitz on MTV After Hours where the Potter cast tried to “speak American”… I forget how they did.

I’m not sure i can picture the superhero part, but the rest seems spot on! if they make it, i’ll definitely watch it!

i haven’t really seen rupert in anything else, at least not strictly comedy, so it’ll be interesting to see if this gets picked up.

  • Hey there

The plot essentially boils down to a geeky comic-book fan who decides to become a superhero. = Kick-Ass

In order for the show to portray him with neat gadgets and able to acquire expensive things, he has an inheritance which pays for it all with no questions asked. = Batman

This actually sounds really nice. And if the pilot is any good, I don’t see why CBS wouldn’t pick it up since it would appeal a lot to the huge Big Bang audience.

  • Debra

    Looking forward to the show

  • upper_westsider

    VERY HAPPY for Rupert!

  • Lucy

i wonder if it is the same show Hannah Mclawain is going to be staring

  • BlueBronze

I’m so looking forward to this! Can’t help but wonder how much CBS is paying him, though. He’s a huge actor to cast.

When did the Harry Potter bubble explode? A bunch of articles today are HP related. I love it, it’s just we haven’t had much besides Wizarding World, Pottermore, and Kill Your Darlings and then we get this, new book covers, and David Copperfield stuff.
    So excited, though.

  • BlueNargles

Didn’t Uncle Bill(ius) die from seeing a Grim?

    • WeasleyIsOurKing

Hahahah! Yes indeed I totally forgot about that! It all makes sense now! Ron is finally going to be rich :D!
