Homeland has added James Yoshimura, most known for his work during Homicide: Life on the Street, to pen season 3.
After picking up accolade after accolade, the Homeland team are under more pressure to deliver an even better season, and with season 3 already in its pre-production phase, Homeland has signed up experienced writer and producer James Yoshimura to add style and substance to the third season.
Yoshimura is known mostly for his work on Homicide: Life on the Street, which had a very successful stint in the 1990s with seven seasons commissioned and Yoshimura being credited with two Emmy nominations for the episode, “Subway,” and for Homicide: The Movie.
The Hollywood Reporter revealed that Yoshimura will take one of the three spots open with the Homeland backroom staffing, and will not only write, but will serve as a consulting producer for the upcoming season.
Series executive Alex Gansa had already let fans know that he has been on the hunt to add more to the Homeland team, and voiced the need for Homeland to grow and continue at its pace. In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter during December, Gansa also noted that he would be preparing drafts for the upcoming season and wanted to recruit “the right person to fit into the group” and who could also “bring something to the show.” It appears as though Yoshimura is the first of the new crop to join Homeland, and we’re fairly sure there’s more to follow.
It’s interesting to note that Gansa is prepared to open the door to more creatives, and not keep the team locked down with the intentions of keeping Homeland intimate given that Gansa’s and Howard Gordon’s previous success, 24, had only 5 writers in all 8 seasons.
Yoshimura will bring Homeland‘s total writers to 6, and with potentially two more to come into the fray, we hope that this is put in place purely to ensure that Homeland stays well on track and continues to deliver its well-deserved success over the past two years.
The third season of Homeland begins shooting in May, and will return to our screens in the final week of September.
