James Bond is doing anything but “fall”ing. As of today, Skyfall “Rises” above the third film in The Dark Knight Trilogy to become the seventh highest-grossing film of all time.
[One more movie pun here because three’s a charm.]
James Bond’s Skyfall, released in November, has now grossed $1,094.3 billion at the worldwide box office. It has surpassed The Dark Knight Rises, released in July, which grossed $1,081 billion during its run.
Though Skyfall has been in theaters for a while, Bond can thank China for the help. It opened on the Chinese mainland on January 21.
The top ten highest-grossing films at the box office are as follows:
1) Avatar – $2,782.3 billion
2) Titanic – $2,185.4 billion
3) The Avengers – $1,511.8 billion
4) Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 2 – $1.328.1 billion
5) Transformers: Dark of the Moon: $1,123.7 billion
6) The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King: $1,119.9 billion
7) Skyfall: $1,094.3 billion
8) The Dark Knight Rises: $1,081 billion
9) Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest: $1,066.2 billion
10) Toy Story 3: 1,063.2 billion
As you can see from the tallies above, it’s unlikely that Skyfall will be able to jump up one more spot to number six this late in the game. The final film in The Lord of the Rings trilogy has a $30 million lead.
The Academy Awards will host a tribute to the James Bond franchise at the February 24 ceremony. It is rumored that all six James Bond actors will appear on stage together for the first time ever.
