Pretty Little Liars showed Spencer (Troian Bellisario) unraveling and in its eighteenth episode of season 3, “Dead to Me,” dealt with the discovery of Allison’s (Sasha Pieterse) Beach Hottie. What follows is a recap, so naturally spoilers are included from this episode.
Aria (Lucy Hale) and Hanna (Ashley Benson) worry about their possible jail time since they have items from Ali’s grave. Meanwhile Caleb (Tyler Blackburn) is resisting Hanna’s efforts to visit his aunt and uncle and grab his things before he moves to Australia. Spencer continues to be on her private investigator’s case to discover the mysterious door that the key fits in.
Emily (Shay Mitchell) goes back to the police station to once more find the picture of Detective Wilden (Bryce Johnson) at Cape May. It seems like she suspects that he is Allison’s Beach Hottie, the one who possibly impregnated her. The postcard is of course missing but her mother discovers a postcard that Ali sent her of Paris with a note in French. Emily goes to Spencer who is better at French than she is to translate the note. It says, “Stop digging. The police already know it’s you that’s capable of murder.”
Emily is confused by the note and tries to help Spencer move forward from her breakup with Toby (Keegan Allen). To try to sort out her own confusion, Emily decides to visit Dr. Sullivan (Annabeth Gish) as Hypable previously previewed.
Hanna talks with Caleb’s uncle Jamie about his dad abandoning him. Meanwhile, Emily is in a hypnotic state of mind as Dr. Sullivan gets her to relay the events of the night of the lighthouse. Aria and Wesley (Gregg Sulkin) play house as he continues to be plagued with silent phone calls. Instead of remembering the night of the lighthouse, Emily sees the night Allison was killed and thinks that she murdered her friend. Hanna and Jamie continue their heart to heart as Emily freaks out after her therapy appointment.
Pretty Little Liars shows fans a cute moment of Ali planning a trip to Paris with Emily as seen by the cute postcards. Emily feels guilty and is unsure of who she is anymore despite her mother’s reassurances.
Spencer meets with her P.I. who tells her where the door is but advises her to move on. Do you think Spencer needs to move on from Toby or do you still hold on to hope that they will work out?
Wesley punches his physics teacher’s husband after he accosts Wesley and Aria in the street. Wesley attempted to get kicked out of prep school in order to escape his mom so he hit on the physics teacher. Wesley gets some major points as he compliments Aria saying, “You’re the most amazing part of this.” It seems like while he’s on academic suspension, Pretty Little Liars fans might see a new relationship develop.
Hanna gives Caleb the picture of him as a baby that Jamie gave her. Hanna suspects that Jamie was the one in the picture and knew Caleb for longer than he said. As previously seen from Hypable stills, Mona (Janel Parrish) stops by Dr. Sullivan’s office with a lovely orchid. Do you think that there’s a bug in the orchid? Spencer opens the mysterious room only to find it empty.
Hanna, Aria, and Emily wait with Jason (Drew Van Acker) at the mausoleum to remember Ali when Spencer shows up. She reveals to Jason that not only was Ali pregnant but that they suspect Detective Wilden was the father. Emily thankfully remembers that she did not murder Ali but rather her memory was of digging up the grave site. She remembers a blonde woman in a red coat in charge. Hanna speculates that maybe it was Ali. The episode ends with Spencer scratching Toby’s name onto his mother’s mausoleum spot. Not the classiest move.
What did you think of “Dead to Me”? Do you think Wilden is the Beach Hottie? Do you think Ali is still alive or was at the time of the removal of the body?
