Following the announcement that Merlin‘s Katie McGrath would be heading to NBC’s new drama series Dracula, Game of Thrones fans can also anticipate seeing a familiar face.
Actor Nonso Anozie, who starred in the second season of Game of Thrones as Xaro Xhoan Daxos, has signed on to join the cast of Dracula, the supernatural period drama scheduled for the NBC fall season lineup. This news was first reported by TV Line earlier today.
Dracula stars The Tudors actor Jonathan Rhys Meyers as the title character, and although production has already started on the pilot, we have only recently begun to hear about other actors joining the series. Arrow guest star Jessica De Gouw was the second cast member revealed, and she will be playing Mina Murray, Dracula’s love interest and the female lead.
Katie McGrath, who played Morgana on BBC’s Merlin until the series concluded last year, has also been announced as a regular cast member. She will be playing the character Lucy Westenra, Mina’s best friend.
Anozie’s character is called R.M. Renfield, and is described as the “fiercely loyal confidante” of Dracula, who is posing under the pseudonym Alan Grayson. Renfield serves as the “keeper of Dracula’s deepest and darkest secrets” and is “the stabilizing force that allows his two personas to successfully coexist.”
Dracula is set in Victorian London, where Dracula is posing as an American entrepreneur seeking to introduce modern science while struggling with his feelings for Mina Murray – who seems to be the reincarnation of his dead wife.
