Denver-based quintet Churchill has mastered the art of fusing rock, country and folk to create an eclectic yet distinct sound that sets it apart from its indie-folk scene counterparts.
The title track, “Change”, off their recently released self produced EP, is a painfully charged love song which plays with the use of Motown and pulsating drum beats.
This unique blend, coupled with the haunting vocals of singer/pianist Bethany Kelly and accented by singer/guitarist Tim Bruns’ echoed lyrics effectively showcases the band’s range and is a perfect example of what makes Churchill stand out among the rest.
Churchill was formed by Bruns and mandolin player, Mike Morter. The duo combined folk-rock and bluegrass creating a unique sound all of its own. In 2009, Bruns and Morter added Kelly, bassist Tyler Rima and drummer Joe Richmond to their group.
With their diverse background in music, the band has been able to add a richness to their charged lyrics of love, loss, and life to create a unique brand of alternative folk-rock music.
Since the release of its EP, the sextet has garnered some much deserved radio play and has just kicked off its first headlining tour of 2013.
With a steadily growing fanbase, and a brand new album set to drop later this spring, we think Churchill will definitely be an artist to watch this year!
