Actress Emma Watson says in a recent interview that her role in The Bling Ring was unique because for the first time, she was portraying someone she couldn’t relate to.

Watson shared the remarks with MTV when asked about the Sofia Coppola project. As we reported last month, the film is to open in theaters this June. “I had to get into the shoes of someone that I couldn’t relate to, and I never had to do that before,” Watson explained. “And by the end of it – it was really interesting getting into this girl’s head. She represents a lot of work I basically stand against, so it was really fascinating to break it down and be like, ‘What is this actually about?’”

In the same video interview, the Harry Potter and Perks of Being a Wallflower star shared an update on Guillermo Del Toro’s Beauty and the Beast. “We met [in September], we started working on a script.” Filming, she said, is likely to begin this summer. Being so busy with other film projects, she was afraid the opportunity to play Belle may slip away. “I was nervous. I was like ‘Oh is it gonna go away,” but Guillermo is still so psyched about it. He’s been thinking about it so much.”

We learned in February that Watson had joined Guillermo Del Toro’s Beauty and the Beast cast.

I still haven’t seen Perks because it never came out anywhere near me. I’m anxiously waiting for the dvd! I hate waiting. I can’t wait to see The Bling Ring too, it’ll be interesting to see Emma in such a different role. I’m looking forward to Beauty and the Beast too.. I have never seen any adaptation of Beauty and the Beast before.

You can’t possibly be serious, not even Disney’s Beauty and the Beast? It’s a classic.

Sadly, I’m being completely serious. I’ve never seen any of those sort of movies. Cinderella, Snow White, The Little Mermaid.. None of them. I know most guys see them when they’re little kids, but I never did. Hell, I’ve never even seen The Lion King. I never saw Alice in Wonderland until I saw the Tim Burton version.

So excited! I was thinking the same thing as Emma, that it was going to go away. Heck yes, it’s still on!

I thought the Bling Ring was already in theater, woops. Guess I have a while to go yet. I swear on my tv a few months ago that I saw The Bling Ring on, I know it said The Bling Ring, is there another version out there somewhere?

    • Nicci @ Paper Dreams

Yes, there is a Lifetime(I think) version starring Austin Butler and Brenda Song. ;)

I can’t believe she’ll re-team with another Mexican director (Cuarón before) it makes me feel so proud being Mexican myself! Perks was amazing and I can’t wait for “The Bling Ring” and not just because of Emma or Sofia Coppola, but for Taissa Farmiga, too! She was absolutely phenomenal in American Horror Story!

I’m hoping, wishing and praying Rupert will play the Beast!

I’m an Emma Watson fan. She was WONDERFUL in Perks. But “Bling Ring” doesn’t interest me at all. People who are ridiculously obsessed with celebrities?!? I know this is based on a true story and I couldn’t care less. But I’m very excited to see Beauty and the Beast!
