The first trailer for The Last Exorcism Part II has arrived online, returning to the tortured past of Nell Sweetzer.
There are a few genuinely creepy moments early on in the trailer, although it looks to rely heavily on typical exorcism movie tropes (contorted bodies, floating above beds). Thankfully it looks to have abandoned the found footage aspect of the original. Take a look at the trailer below, via Yahoo!:
While we’re not complaining, it is a bit bizarre to see the found footage aspect of the series dropped. The problem is that it looks to be quite pedestrian in terms of exorcism films, and horror in general. We’ll just have to wait and see. Ed Gass-Donnelly directed The Last Exorcism II from a script from Damien Chazelle (Grand Piano), with Ashley Bell returning to star. CBS Films has set a release date of March 1, 2013.
Continuing where the first film left off, Nell Sweetzer (Bell) is found terrified and alone in rural Louisiana. Back in the relative safety of New Orleans, Nell realizes that she can’t remember entire portions of the previous months only that she is the last surviving member of her family. Just as Nell begins the difficult process of starting a new life, the evil force that once possessed her is back with other, unimaginably horrific plans that mean her last exorcism was just the beginning.
