On the heels of a reputable rumor we shared with you yesterday, Summit today announced The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 1 Extended Edition!

The new DVD/Blu-ray set will include eight minutes of new footage selected by director Bill Condon, who spoke about today’s announcement in a press release. “As Twilight series devotees know, there was a lot of ground to cover in adapting Breaking Dawn to the screen,” said Condon. “Between the wedding, the honeymoon, the birth, and everything in between, naturally there were things that didn’t make it into our final cut. But I wanted to make sure that for all the Twihards out there, there was a chance to see some of these cut scenes – several of which are fan favorites from the book.”

Breaking Dawn – Part 1 Extended Edition will hit shelves in North America on March 2, 2013. According to yesterday’s leak on Amazon France, the following scenes will be included (rough French-to-English translation provided by Google):

- Revised opening scene with the Volturi
- Revision of the extended flashback of a young vampire Edward Cullen
- New scene during the honeymoon
- Two new scenes in the Cullen home
- Extended version of the fight scene between Edward/Jacob and the other werewolves
- New scene with Jacob the caregiver

Will you buy ‘Breaking Dawn – Part 1 Extended Edition’?

Watch the trailer for the Extended Edition below! (It auto-plays…sorry)

    can’t wait OMG!!!

  • TheFirst

This is why I didn’t buy any of the Twilight movies on DVD or Blu. I KNEW this would happen!

I take it that you aren’t a twilight fan?

Thank goodness I didn’t purchase the DVD last year! Now, I’ll get to buy a copy with all the scenes we’ve been waiting for…so excited for the Edward-Jacob and Volturi ones, in particular :)

  • LunaLovegood

What about Breaking Dawn Part 2 . Is there any news on that , when its going to come on DVD ?

    • Namouri

Comes out in UK on 13-14th Feb :)

I am a huge fan, but I have to say, NO! That should have been offered when they first offered the dvd and I feel that they are trying to take advantage of the fans who have been so faithful.

    • UncleNine

Me too fan. Condon said ‘not true.’ He wanted to release extended edition last year but was absolutely too busy finishing BD Part 2 to be able to do it. Only after Part 2 was released could he get back to extended edition of Part 1.

      I believe him.

  • Corin Boswell

Now I’m kicking myself for buying the 2 disc edition. I would like to see the extra scenes but wish they would have included it on the original 2 disc edition. Not sure I’m going to fork over the money for another Part 1 dvd this soon.

Also…is that a pile of bodies I see during that last Volturi shot? :P

    • Cassie

the voluturi were such hypocrites – Edward can’t take his shirt off in public, but they can slaughter a busload of tourists

      • UncleNine

I wonder about that too. How the heck can a busload of tourists turn up missing in Voltara every month or so? Also, if there are, say, several multiple of hundreds of vampires in the world, several thousand humans disappear without a trace (or a bloodbank gets massively robbed) every month or so. How do they keep this secret even normally?

seriously, ONLY 8 minutes? thats it?! If it were more like an 45 – 60 minutes i’d be more interested.

When i think of “extended cut” i think back to the LOTR movies… where each one had LOADS of new stuff.

    so, i’m a bit disappointed that there isn’t more…

  • Sigh

Ugh I JUST bought this movie for Christmas and now they’re releasing a better version? Bah humbug.

  • http://twitter.com/fluflu44 Mandy Brennan

Why is this coming out now instead of last year when the DVD was released? So lame. What a way to milk money out of the fans. I think I’m going to pass on this and wait for it to leak online. 8 minutes is not worth it.

  • http://twitter.com/Super_Lulu1 Lupita

Well I for one am not buying another dvd of a movie that I already have! This new edition only has about 8min of extra stuff so it’s probably not worth it ugh and why couldnt they have given us that the first time they sold the DVD/Blu ray??!!. If in the future they release a more complete box set of all the movies I might consider buying that

  • http://twitter.com/emilyecstasyTM Emily Bryan

Will it have the same content as the original release? Because I’ve been behind on my movie purchases, and I don’t own part 1, so if this still has the same content, then I’ll get this one :]

    • UncleNine

      Get this one.

  • http://www.facebook.com/tracy.allen.90410 Tracy Allen

come on cant even watch it not made available in the uk, this is so not right, big Twilight fans in the uk you now :(

  • Tamekia Sholts

I think that’s really stupid. I already own part 1 and I wanted it for a long time but now you coming out with this why not just sell that one to us in the first place? Now I’m going to have two DVDs of the same movie. Not smart Hollywood really not smart.

    • http://www.facebook.com/leelee.owens.3 LeeLee Owens

Technically its really smart cause you are going to pay twice for the same movie and only get 8 additional minutes! that is not smart. Lmao
