A picture recently taken on the set of NBC’s Smash unveils a large Bombshell casting change. Be forewarned: major season 2 spoilers follow!
As seen in this picture snapped by Hollywoodlife.com, Ivy (Megan Hilty) will replace Karen (Katherine McPhee) as the iconic role of Marilyn Monroe in the TV show’s fictional Broadway production!
Two other crew changes should be noted, in that Tom (Christian Borle) will replace Derek (Jack Davenport) as director, with Derek being demoted to choreographer.
What could have happened to Karen to allow Ivy to reclaim the lead role of the show? And did the Tom and Derek feud lead to the crew change?
The last we saw of Ivy, she was downing pills during Karen’s preview performance as Marilyn. Derek and Tom’s major argument, in which Tom revealed that Derek’s father slept with the director who badmouthed Tom’s work in an earlier production, led to a rocky road for the two.
If one thing’s for sure, it’s that we’re VERY interested to see how all of this will go down once season 2’s plot unfolds. One theory is that this is a dream sequence. Ivy would most likely be dreaming about this, but that also brings into question why there’d be a such a specific crew change with Derek and Tom.
