Joseph Gordon-Levitt might jump the DC ship, as he is reportedly under consideration for the lead role in Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy.
As Deadline reports, Marvel had previously made test deals with potential actors, such as Zero Dark Thirty‘s Joel Edgerton, Jack Huston of Boardwalk Empire, Cloud Atlas star Jim Sturgess, Pushing Daisies‘ Lee Pace, Chuck‘s Zachary Levi and Les Miserables‘ Eddie Redmayne. It now appears Joseph Gordon-Levitt can be added to that list of actors eyeing the role of Peter Quill in the James Gunn directed film.
The report adds, “I’m not sure if Gordon-Levitt has been offered the role and nobody would comment, but he’s in the mix. He is just coming out of the superhero movie The Dark Knight Rises, which left him in an intriguing position as Chris Nolan’s film trilogy concluded.”
Intriguing indeed. What’s really baffling about this news is that if DC had any plans for Joseph Gordon-Levitt in a Batman-related role going forward, they definitely wouldn’t let him star in a potential new franchise for their rivals. Put aside just how bizarre it would be to see Gordon-Levitt in the role of Batman and Peter Quill, there has got to be something in a contract somewhere stipulating “you can’t be in more than one superhero film.”
Guardians of the Galaxy follows a futuristic, alien superhero team protecting the galaxy from evil, lead by Peter Quill. The team first appeared in Marvel comics in 1969, but weren’t given their own series until the 1990s.
