The CW has released the synopsis for Supernatural‘s first episode of 2013, titled “Torn and Frayed.”

The official press release has the following information about the episode:

CASTIEL MUST SAVE A FELLOW ANGEL — Naomi (guest star Amanda Tapping) tells Castiel (Misha Collins) that Crowley (guest star Mark Sheppard) is holding an angel captive and Castiel must rescue him before Crowley finds out their secrets. Castiel turns to Dean (Jensen Ackles) for help. Meanwhile, Sam (Jared Padalecki) meets with Amelia (guest star Liane Balaban) who asks him to make a choice: stay with her or leave and never contact her again. Robert Singer directed the episode written by Jenny Klein.

The mid-season finale ended with Sam coming face-to-face with Amelia for the first time since the season premiere after Dean faked an SOS text from her number to prevent Sam from targeting Benny in a vampire hunt.

The season went on break with the brothers at odds, as Sam was furious about Dean’s deception, so we don’t doubt we’ll see that tension crop up in this episode as well.

The episode will be the tenth episode of Supernatural‘s eighth season.

Supernatural seems to be losing it’s supernaturalness.

Can we just make Misha a regular again so I can really get back on this train? I want to be in it so bad, but I can’t completely do it with so little Castiel goodness! Hopefully the New Year will being angel-heavy storylines.

I like Amelia. I hope this doesn’t mean the end of her character before we get a chance to know her. I am loving season 8 though.

This season has been great so far! Can’t wait to see how it unfolds next year.
