Following the tragic shooting in Newtown, Conneticut this past Friday, pop singer Ke$ha’s latest single “Die Young” has been dropped from the rotation of many radio stations for obvious and understandable reasons.
The singer addressed the removal from radio stations tonight via Twitter, and is stirring up new questions by implying she didn’t like the song to begin with.
Ke$ha took to her official Twitter and issued two seemingly off-the-cuff tweets about “Die Young’s” radio departure.
“i understand. I had my very own issue with ‘die young’ for this reason. I did NOT want to sing those lyrics and I was FORCED TO,” she wrote in her first tweet. The singer didn’t elaborate on how it was exactly “forced” upon her. Our guess is she’s exaggerating; she probably wasn’t a fan of the song but her producer encouraged her to include it on the album anyway. The tweet was quickly deleted from her account.
Her second tweet was far more compassionate and less about her. “I’m so so so sorry for anyone who has been effected by this tragedy,” she wrote, “and I understand why my song is now inappropriate. words cannot express.”
As noted by Billboard, Ke$ha has a writing credit on the song alongside Fun.’s Nate Reuss and producers Dr. Luke, Cirukut and Benny Blanco.
“Die Young” is off her latest album Warrior which dropped on November 30.
Other entertainment entities – most notably Saturday Night Live and The Voice – have had touching tributes at the start of their shows to honor the 26 Newtown, Connecticut victims.
