Universal’s upcoming comedy Identity Thief puts Melissa McCarthy and Jason Bateman in what look to be hilarious lead roles opposite one another.
“Unlimited funds have allowed Diana (McCarthy) to live it up on the outskirts of Miami, where the queen of retail buys whatever strikes her fancy,” reads the film’s official description. “There’s only one glitch: The ID she’s using to finance these sprees reads ‘Sandy Bigelow Patterson’… and it belongs to an accounts rep who lives halfway across the U.S.”
In a week’s time, Sandy (Bateman) must track down Diana and get her back to his hometown of Denver in order to speak to police.
Identity Thief will open in theaters February 8, 2013 and we’re really excited to see McCarthy take a lead role. The film is directed by Seth Gordon (Horrible Bosses). Look for Jon Favreau (director, Iron Man), Eric Stonestreet (Modern Family), and John Cho (Star Trek, Harlod & Kumar) in supporting roles.
Bateman is best known for his lead role as Michael Bluth in Arrested Development which is currently shooting new episodes for a debut on Netflix next year. An Arrested Development movie is also in the works. It is expected to be shot following the conclusion of the television show. Meanwhile, McCarthy stars in CBS’ Mike & Molly and had a breakout role in 2011’s Bridesmaids.
