In a new video interview with Entertainment Tonight, Dan Radcliffe talks about his lead role as Ig in the film Horns and why the script is special to him.
Radcliffe plays Ignatius “Ig” Perrish, a troubled young man who wakes one day to find that he’s starting to grow horns. Describing the role earlier this year, Radcliffe said, “It’s a very, very different type of part than anything I’ve done before.” It’s “deeply emotional and also incredibly outrageous in some ways.”
In the story, Ig is accused of the violent rape and murder of his girlfriend before waking up to find horns that come with a wildly tempting power trip — he can induce people to tell the truth or compel them to give into their ugliest inner urges.
Asked by ET Canada if he’s found himself gravitating towards the dark material, he responded, “[Horns is] very dark but it is also very, very funny, and in parts deeply emotional, so it’s not just darkness and violence and horror. But I definitely think I must have some inclination towards darker things.”
Later in the interview came a fun question: Do you think you have a Devil inside of you? “In a way, that’s what the film is about,” Radcliffe responded. “It’s about what we can become when the circumstances of our life kind of conspire to put us at our worst point… I think what’s so heartbreaking for Ig is that he was in love with this girl and they’ve been together for a long time. And not only did he lose her, but he also lost the person that he was with her. And he knows at the beginning of the story that he has no hope of ever re-finding that in himself.”
It’s sounds like a great film to us, and we’re eager to at least get a release date so we can start counting down. See great on set photos of Radcliffe filming a fight sequence in our earlier report. Thanks to MuggleNet for the tip.
