Though the film is still far out from its release date, a Star Trek Into Darkness footage screening was held in Tokyo, Japan earlier today. Lead stars Chris Pine and Benedict Cumberbatch alongside director J.J. Abrams.
In Star Trek Into Darkness, the follow up to the wildly successful Star Trek reboot in 2009, the crew of the Enterprise find an unstoppable force of terror from within their own organization. Captain Kirk leads a manhunt to a war-zone world to capture a one man weapon of mass destruction.
See high-res photos from the event below. Also appearing in a few of the photos is producer Bryan Burk. There’s no word yet on what footage exactly was screened. Star Trek Into Darkness opens May 13, 2013. We were lucky to get these new photos of Abrams, Pine, and Cumberbatch already promoting the film (and looking their absolute best), but we don’t expect another publicity event for a few more months.

Just yesterday the first poster for Into Darkness was released and features Cumberbatch as Khan. A new synopsis released last month says that “our heroes are propelled into an epic chess game of life and death, love will be challenged, friendships will be torn apart, and sacrifices must be made for the only family Kirk has left: his crew.”
In addition, it was announced today that the first Star Trek Into Darkness trailer will be unveiled this Thursday. The news was revealed by actor Simon Pegg.
It’s great to see the Star Trek sequel cast and crew together!
