Six new ‘Hobbit’ video clips released

Peter Jackson has kept Lord of The Rings fans waiting for The Hobbit ever since he left the Shire back in 2003 with a whole truckload of Oscars at his disposal. Now six more clips from the film have come online to whet the appetites of nerds that can’t get enough of a certain hobbit and his nephew.

The Hobbit follows an adventurous young Bilbo Baggins as he treks through a familiar landscape with a group of dwarves in order to help them reclaim their homeland. We were recently gifted with 27 hi-res images from the film, and so many TV spots that we could probably piece the entire film together ourselves if we had the book handy (which we do).

The last clip that we found saw Bilbo accepting his sword, Sting, from Gandalf. The sword makes a few appearances in the clips below, and an especially comical cameo in the first one below featuring Gollum, who is voiced and motion-captured by Andy Serkis.

“I Wasn’t Talking To You”

Bilbo and Gollum have a confrontation in a cave that will lead to riddles in the dark.

“Give Him The Contract”

Bilbo goes through the Dwarves’ contract, which is nice enough to include protocol in the case of incineration.

“Who Did You Tell About Your Quest?”

Gandalf, Bilbo and company realize that they are being hunted.

“There Is Nobody Home”

Bilbo receives a number of guests…even though he’s not home.

“Swords Are Named For The Great Deeds They Do”

As Elrond examines the weapons of the party, Bilbo considers naming his new weapon.

“Goblin Chase”

The company sees some action in a battle with goblins that are apparently familiar with the Wilhelm Scream (listen closely at 0:37 for the infamous sound bite).

What do you think of these brand new clips? Excited to see The Hobbit?

These are awesome! I kind of like that, at least of those shown in these clips, the action sequences seem sort of comedic (although I hope all of them aren’t like that)

The Hobbit is a book for children, what you expected?

Which is why I like the more comic action. I’m just hoping, seeing as I’m not a child, that it still has some of the epic feel from Lord of the Rings (which I’m sure if it doesn’t in the installment, the Battle of Five Armies will surely do)

Why are the goblins CGI now? I think it may have been better if they had kept to the face masks and makeup for the creatures instead of the overuse of CGI.

So LOTR overused CGI too, huh? Because lots of the bigger trolls were all-cgi. Only the orcs were human actors / stuntmen.
