A new trailer for a documentary entitled Showrunners has been released, and the title lives up to its name. The doc offers up interesting interviews with some of Hollywood’s best, including Joss Whedon (Buffy), Damon Lindelof (Lost), and Jane Espenson (Once Upon A Time).
Showrunners, according to the creators, is “the first ever feature length documentary to explore the fascinating world of US television showrunners and the creative forces aligned around them. These people are responsible for creating, writing and overseeing every element of production on one of the United States’ biggest exports – television drama and comedy series. The film takes audiences behind the scenes of the chaotic world of the showrunner to reveal the incredible amount of work that goes into making sure their favorite TV series airs on time as well as the challenges that showrunners must overcome to ensure a new series makes it onto the schedules at all.”
The new trailer includes clips of Whedon, Lindelof, and many others. The documentary scored an impressive lineup of showrunners who discuss how Comic-Con has helped them become more recognized by fans. Interviewees include J.J. Abrams (Lost), Terrence Winter (Boardwalk Empire), Kurt Sutter (Sons of Anarchy), J.H. Wyman (Fringe), Shawn Ryan (The Shield), Dee Johnson (Boss), and Billy Prady (The Big Bang Theory).
Showrunners is currently seeking funding through a Kickstarter. The use of the money is unclear, especially considering the film has already been shot, but on their page they say the money “allows us to deliver a film that reveals what really goes on behind the curtain in creating captivating television.”
