The stars of Once Upon a Time have spoken in interviews about Sunday night’s winter finale “Queen of Hearts,” teasing new character dynamics and the arrival of Cora.
After the last episode of Once Upon a Time, it seems like there’s a real possibility that Cora could be coming through the portal to Storybrooke this week.
Robert Carlyle explains to The Huffington Post what’s so dangerous about Cora, saying, “I think she’s just bad news. She’s bad news to have around. She’s nasty. I think that Rumple is about himself, but I don’t think he’s necessarily world-domination nasty, and I think that Cora probably is.”
So Rumpelstiltskin and Regina will be setting aside their differences to fight her. Lana Parrilla talks about the pair’s unlikely alliance, musing that, “They just genuinely don’t have anyone else but each other at the end of the day, and I think they know that. It’s nothing that they would ever admit to one another, but it’s true.”
Meanwhile in fairytale land, look for the dynamic between Snow and Emma to shift a bit – allowing for Emma to step more into the leadership role. Ginnifer Goodwin explains that, “Snow needs a bit of caretaking after coming face to face with Charming … Emma has to really get Snow under control and take over as leader.”
This will lead to what Jennifer Morrison calls an “honest” confrontation between Emma and Captain Hook. Speaking to TV Line, Morrison says that while it would take a while to get Emma with a villain, “they’re very kindred spirits. They both come from being thieves and finding creative ways to survive life. When we work together, I feel that, he feels like a real partner — but not right now in a way that’s romantic. She’s met her match in him in other ways, though, so there’s a connection.”
Morrison also explains what she likes about Cora as a villain. “She is so cunning. There is always that unsettling feeling of ‘What is she going to do next? How is she going to stop them?’ She’s capable of anything, in our book,” she says.
As for the big twist we can expect at the end of the episode, Morrison teases, “It’s set up in a way where we don’t know what we’d be coming back to if we go through the portal, while in Storybrooke they don’t really know if it’d be us coming through or someone else. It really allows for the emotions to be heightened.”
Once Upon a Time 2×09 “Queen of Hearts” airs Sunday at 8/7c on ABC.
