See the just-released trailer for Jack the Giant Slayer starring Nicholas Hoult, Eleanor Tomlinson, Stanley Tucci, Ian McShane, Bill Nighy, and Ewan McGregor.

Jack the Giant Slayer tells the story of an ancient war that is reignited when a young farmhand unwittingly opens a gateway between our world and a fearsome race of giants. Unleashed on the Earth for the first time in centuries, the giants strive to reclaim the land they once lost, forcing the young man, Jack (Nicholas Hoult), into the battle of his life to stop them. Fighting for a kingdom, its people, and the love of a brave princess, he comes face to face with the unstoppable warriors he thought only existed in legend — and gets the chance to become a legend himself. It is directed by Bryan Singer.

The film opens in theaters March 1 and the trailer delivers a nice mix of action and humor. There are some particularly neat shots, such as when Hoult’s character Jack hides underwater as a giant passes over him.

Do you like the ‘Jack the Giant Slayer’ trailer?

Hoult will next be seen in Summit Entertainment’s Warm Bodies on February 1. The film is based on the zombie novel by Isaac Marion. The book has been well received by readers, and we wrote up a review of the film earlier this month!

Eleanor Tomlinson. My heart died inside a little because of a totally different implication.

Does anyone else feel the title of the movie gives away the ending?

no, we all know it’s jack and the beanstalk, so everyone knows how it ends.

      • Daughter of Eve

oh cheers mate, I was feeling like a real idiot before you commented. And since clarification is needed, SARCASM

      • Daughter of Eve

Actually, Jack and the Beanstalk and Jack the Giant Killer are two closely related stories: the former inspired by the much older, latter folk-tale. By looking at only the trailer, the movie has got many elements that can be associated with either or both stories. Jack and Giant being chief amongst these elements of similarities. More to the point though, when I said the title gives away the ending, it was in sarcasm that I said that.

But cheers mate, next time I intend sarcasm, I shall idiot proof it as such *sarcasm ahead* (though in this case behind).

You don’t have to be mean about it, you asked a question and I answered it, how was I supposed to know it was sarcasm? “Idiot proof” that’s quite harsh.

          • Daughter of Eve

See, if you didn’t state it in a ‘it’s so obvious, everyone knows’ manner, I would not have been mean about it. I take back the “idiot proof” remark, it was in poor taste.

every time I see a trailer I hope for something special in dreary movie terms- how about “Jackie and the Beanstalk”, where our female lead has to save the PRINCE. Oh well, one can dream.

I saw this trailer when I went to see Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows (so that’s… Christmas of 2011?) and it’s only online now? Weird…
