“Legitimate” sources say that the answer is a definitive “yes.”

There is no word how, but BleedingCool.com has heard that David Tennant will return for the Doctor Who 50th anniversary festivities. Tennant played the beloved and favorited Tenth Doctor in the second, third, and fourth series of the regenerated, one might say, Doctor Who franchise.

Bleeding Cool said:

Yes. David Tennant will be back in time for the Doctor Who anniversary. Be prepared to be surprised…”

Late last week Tennant gave a questionable response to a query about the 50th anniversary – suddenly speaking mysteriously about the prospects despite continued enthusiasm in the past.

With Moffat – head writer of the show – at the helm, the fans will most likely be nothing but surprised, considering his history of plot twists and exciting stories.

Fans would for sure be ecstatic about the return of Tennant, but they most likely won’t know a positive answer until the airing of the anniversary specials.

If these sources are indeed legitimate, we can expect an official announcement from the BBC in the near future, as it has a habit of revealing crucial information before it is leaked. Previous examples have included the casting of Jenna-Louise Coleman as the new companion, and (more recently) the announcement of Coraline writer Neil Gaiman’s sophomore script for the show.

Do you think David Tennant will come back?

I hope the twist is that the Doctor regenerates BACK into David…I’m not too crazy about Matt Smith

    • ravenclaw1991

That doesn’t work like that. And there is nothing wrong with Matt Smith. He’s awesome.

    • Stormageddon

I love the Eleventh Doctor, but I can’t say I’d be disappointed if that happened…. ;)

    • EmilyO

The problem isn’t Matt, it’s Moffat. Matt has the potential to be an amazing Doctor, Moffat just sucks at running shows. I MISS RTD!!!!!

  • Unscrupulous

Kevin, we’ll call it “degeneration” :D

Both of those things leaked before the BBC announced them. Did you mean the BBC has a habit of revealing info after it leaks?

It’s a shame they have to press release stuff like that. It’d be so much better as a surprise, I mean look at Asylum of the Daleks.

Still nervously hoping they nab Eccleston too!

    • Meur123

I know! I really want him back too. The only thing is that out of all the living doctors he’s the one that seems less willing, which is annoying really because he was a great doctor.

      • http://twitter.com/StarkidSims Simone

Really? I thought he was one of the most willing, he is one of the biggest Who fan boys I’ve ever seen and had an amazing time doing the show. Christopher Eccleston has seemed the most reluctant to me

        • ane_drew

I think Meur123 was talking about Eccleston. :)

        • Meur123

I was speaking in reply to Harry, and I was talking about Eccleston. He’s already ruled out ever playing the doctor again.

          • http://harrymyland.com/ Harry Myland

He’s actually sort of turned face on that stance, saying pretty recently that he thinks he has more to do with the character and junk. Sort of one of those things where you can kinda smell the smoke, and where there’s smoke there’s usually fire? Unless it’s just wafting in from Tennant’s raging blaze.

In other news, Colin Baker has recently been reported as saying that he hasn’t be approached and doesn’t think any of the Classic Era guys have been either: http://www.themarysue.com/colin-baker-50th-anniversary-doctor-who/

            ohhhh okay :)

  • ravenclaw1991

I’m not going to bet too excited yet. I don’t want to get my hopes up. But I’m hoping we get an official announcement! I will die of happiness. I loved David Tennant as the Doctor and seeing him meet Matt’s Doctor would be amazing. I hope Eccleston is persuaded to do it. I’d love to see him as well.

  • LilyLuna

I hope that if it *is* true, they announce something official soon. I’d love to see the Tenth Doctor back for the anniversary. Imagine David and Matt’s Doctor’s interacting! That would be *brilliant*. :D

I’m only allowing myself to be in stage one of crazy fangirling (screaming in my head, emailing my whovian best friend a dozen times). Stage two (talking about it nonstop and driving my family crazy, posting on Facebook, announcing it to the supermarket) will have to wait until the official announcement!

I’m going to be disappointed if there isn’t at least a glimpse of Tennant or Eccleston! It’s the 50th anniversary, they gotta do SOMETHING!

  • Marie

Considering what a disappointment Rose’s appearance was in Let’s Kill Hitler I am prepared to be very let down. I don’t trust Moffet at all. He appears to hate all the characters that I like.

  • http://twitter.com/potterfan92 Raina

I’m going to wait for official response from the BBC

  • http://twitter.com/acjub CK

That would be the best thing ever! Now can we get Captain Jack aboard as well?

  • iamthumbs

I think that Tennant wont be back as the Doctor, The only way I can see two doctors in the same place at the same time is if they bring Tennant back as the version of the doctor he left with Rose… but then that ultimately means splitting time apart again so that the can travel dimensions and the Doctor doesn’t like that.. but hey Moffat has done crazier stuff right? SOoooo….. lets wait and see.

    • EmilyO

They’ve had episodes where more than 2 doctors were in the same place.

  • RachelShulman

Everyone be quiet about this! The “legitimate source” should’ve kept it a legitimate surprise. Way to take the fun out of it.

  • Dragana

oh dear god please!!!!! I BE´G YOU I NEED HIM AGAIN!!!! SALJKFH;DSFN;SFG;KS

  • http://www.facebook.com/you.shall.not.pass47 Isaac Hershal Robles

    Please?

  • Laura

Honestly, even if they don’t have all the previous doctors, I think it’d still be interesting to see how they insert him into the storyline. Maybe the 10th doctor’s clone will come back? Which could also mean that Rose might come back.

  • EmilyO

According to one “legit source” Rose, Martha Mickey, Jack, Nine, Ten, and Donna are supposed to be back.
