Darren Criss fans will be delighted to discover that a wealth of new candid photos of the singer/StarKid/Glee actor have been released to the web via his official profile on a new website called Baboo.

Billed as ‘the world’s first interactive nesting doll,’ Baboo allows fans to unlock new content by answering questions in regards to an artist’s career. To unlock some of Darren’s content, we were asked what kind of merchandise we’d be interested in – in exchange for a merch discount code on Darren’s new range of tee-shirts over at Ann Arbor Tees – as well as questions about what fans would like to see Darren do next. Options included a movie, a new StarKid show, a Broadway show or a solo album, and we were also asked what type of social media we’d like to see him use more often (we picked YouTube!)

Baboo appears to be a market research app of sorts, allowing artists to gather data about what their fandom wants from them, but the pay-off is worth it, as the content we unlocked is pretty awesome! Lots of behind the scenes photos taken by Darren and his team over the past couple of years, including some that are clearly personal cellphone pics – and in addition, the final level allowed us to unlock a behind the scenes video of Darren preparing for How To Succeed in Business Without Really Trying.

Can’t be bothered going through the motions? That’s okay, that’s what we’re here for.

The above pics, in order, are from the Warblers appearance on Ellen, recording songs at Rolling Stone, napping before the Warblers performance at a City of Hope benefit, preparing a setlist before a gig, playing live at Six Flags in St Louis, behind the scenes at the Fashion’s Night Out video shoot, backstage before and after the MuchMusic Video Awards, and lastly, preparing to perform for President Obama.

Below is video footage of Darren’s time in rehearsal for How To Succeed:

If you’re interested in that merch discount, want to contribute your vote on Darren’s career path, or want to check out other artists who will be unlocked on the site soon (this includes PSY and Foster The People) you can head over to Baboo.

What say you in regards to Darren Criss joining Baboo and the new pics and video we’ve gained from it?

  • Stephanie

IDK i think its a little weird he joined such a network i always had the feeling he does whatever he wanted, whatever felt right… anyways if i had the choice i would want a new album as well as starkid shows although the less selfish answer will be whatever makes you happy D, i’m down with whatever makes you happy :)

  • Stephanie

i’ve just tried joining and it sounds like it will have too much control of MY account. it says:

This application will be able to:
    Read Tweets from your timeline.
See who you follow, and follow new people.
    Update your profile.
    Post Tweets for you.

really, update my profile and post tweets for me? sorry don’t think i am comfortable with that much control over my own account. they still need time to grow i guess…

    • NatalieFisher

No, dude, pretty sure you missed the crucial word “not” there. What you’ve posted is the standard details of logging into a site via Twitter, and that’s the list of things it says it will NOT be able to do by logging in via Twitter. Did you get a screencap?

      • Stephanie

        yes i did…

      • Stephanie

i hope the pic posts this time

      • Stephanie

having difficulty with the screen cap but i definetely copied and pasted straight from the thing.
at the bottom this message appears:

Really curious what this whole Baboo thing is about. Like, if Darren/his management are really going to take into consideration what his audience would like to see him do next. I mean, it’s all well and fine – but I hope Darren puts his energy into things HE wants to do. Besides, I’m pretty sure his audience is going to be thrilled with whatever he does anyway….

    • NatalieFisher

You know he puts a lot of subtle work into cultivating loyalty from his fans, so I think they’re certainly going to be curious to get actual data on what the masses want.

Further confirmation that Darren Criss needs to marry me.

I love this! I just wish I could pick more than one thing for the what should he do next question, I chose a StarKid musical but I also really want another solo album from him. And I think it’s pretty great that one of the things we get is 10% off his merch.

    • NatalieFisher

I chose a StarKid show as well. I know he has an album in the works. I would love it if it actually was viable for him to do a new StarKid show.

  • Dee

You know what I REALLY want?? The full video of him singing and dancing Madonna’s dress you up song that they used for FNO. That was SEXY as…. Well the only thing as sexy as that is the man himself! ;P
