The week is clearly all about The Mortal Instruments. After the trailer was released, the official Twitter was opened and Cassie promised a snippet from City of Heavenly Fire if the fans could get it to 5,000 followers.

Needless to say it took less than an hour for the official Twitter, @MortalMovie to reach that number. Now Cassie has given us another treat. Check out the snippet from City of Heavenly Fire below. Be warned, this does contains spoilers for the series, so if you aren’t caught up, read it at your own risk!

“No killing,” Jordan said. “We’re trying to make you feel peaceful, so you don’t go up in flames. Blood, killing, war, those are all non-peaceful things. Isn’t there anything else you like? Rainforests? Chirping birds?”

“Weapons,” said Jace. “I like weapons.”

“I’m starting to think we have a problematic issue of personal philosophy here.”

Jace leaned forward, his palms flat on the ground. “I’m a warrior,” he said. “I was brought up as a warrior. I didn’t have toys, I had weapons. I slept with a wooden sword until I was five. My first books were medieval demonologies with illuminated pages. The first songs I learned were chants to banish demons. I know what brings me peace, and it isn’t sandy beaches or chirping birds in rainforests. I want a weapon in my hand and a strategy to win.”

Jordan looked at him levelly. “So you’re saying that what brings you peace … is war.”

“Now you get it.”

So what did you think of the snippet?

  • Sarah

Cute… But I bit lackluster, I think. Not something that leaves me dying to read more.

    • Louis Ben-Joseph

I do quite agree. Cassie’s previous snippets were meant to titillate the readers (not entirely sexual though). Some of her snippets left you dead…

  • KleppMelk

I barely got through the first book, and that was partly because Jace was just incredibly unlikable. It’s good to see I’m not missing out on any profound character development between the first and sixth book.

He’s a great character. You just haven’t read the parts where he gets all sappy and romantic. You should keep reading. His character is very cruel at times but then also incredibly forgiveable. Just. Read. The. Series.

      • KleppMelk

As I said, Jace is only partly the reason I didn’t like the book. The writing was abysmal to say the least, and the plot was terribly predictable, which in turn made the characters look like idiots.

I learned with Twilight that if you really disliked the first book, don’t bother continuing the series.

    • Rose

‘Profound character development’ is an understatement. He changes a lot, you just have to read through it to find it.

      • KleppMelk

I think the quote above proves you wrong.

Just because he doesn’t change from being a warrior to a Peace Corps volunteer doesn’t mean he hasn’t changed any.

    I heart Jace

  • lt.calla

I’m not really fond of Jace. He is too cocky and rude. Not exacly the best qualities, though he is a well made characer.

  • zugfan23

I love jaces character…….the whole series and the infernal devices just never cease to amaze me and the way will and jace are so alike is just uncanny!!!!

Give us a snippet of Magnus and Alec, let them be together :(

  • CriticForever

I’ll always love this series. And Jace is probably my favorite character, ‘coz he’s sort of like me. I am hugely sarcastic, plus the lies I usually tell are white lies, designed to protect me or my family or my friends, etc. etc. etc.
And @KleppMelk:disqus : You know, you ought to change your wording a little bit. I think Cassandra Clare’s style of writing is great. Maybe you ought to write a book and tell us about it, and then we’ll read it and say that your writing was abysmal and the plot entirely predictable, and your characters idiots. Let’s see how you would like it. So nothing against Cassandra Clare, ‘coz she doesn’t deserve this kind of criticism.
