Today the first full-length The Host trailer for Stephenie Meyer’s book-to-film adaptation was released!

Check it out below – we’ll have additional details about this trailer and The Host movie soon.

The trailer shares the introduction between Melanie and Jared. “This is the beginning of a love story,” Melanie explains in the trailer. “That may not seem like a big deal, except for one thing: This is the future, and humanity is all but extinct. We have been invaded by another species who will erase our minds to take our bodies. But there are a few of us who still fight back.”

The trailer is a beautiful and exciting look at the film. The love story looks genuine and the action looks thrilling.

In addition, this new poster was released. Lead stars Ronan, Jake Abel, and Max Irons appear:

The Host movie opens in theaters March 29, 2013. The film stars Ronan as Melanie, Diane Kruger as The Seeker, Jake Abel as Ian O’Shea, and Max Irons as Jared Howe. In the story, “a parasitic alien soul is injected into the body of Melanie Stryder. Instead of carrying out her race’s mission of taking over the Earth, ‘Wanda’ (as she comes to be called) forms a bond with her host and sets out to aid other free humans.” The film was directed and written by Andrew Niccol.

What do you think of ‘The Host’ trailer?

  • TeamBella76

I think it looks good and I wanted more but I’ll wait for the movie ! I can see why they would put the romance up front because this is being played before the last Twilight movie.

  • Corin Boswell

Looks good to me so far. Looking foward to seeing this in March.

I like the concept of it all, but just the fact that it’s from the writer of The Twilight “Saga” makes me fear that it’s going to be romantic chit-chat instead of interesting plot twists and such. And those actors, please, Saoirse Ronan has proven that she can act, but the two guys look like they come from the Disney Channel and they’re chosen for their looks. I don’t know if I’ll see this one.

But thumbs up for using Imagine Dragons music in the trailer!

    • guest

Haha, Jake Abel did start out on the Disney Channel, but that was like…eight years ago and I love him for his acting, not just his looks. He’s usually cast as villainous characters (like in Supernatural, Percy Jackson, and I Am Number Four), so I’m excited to see him in a different kind of role. I’m not worried about his acting at all.

I read The Host four years ago when it first came out, but I can barely remember what happened in the story. The trailer looks good though, so I might re-read the book (or at the very least, read its wiki page), and go see the movie.

    • Ellen

Same here! I read it when it first came out. I really need to refresh my memory but overall the trailer looks good :)

  • Alex

Well, you know what they say…
Nothing like a Sci Fi Thriller, from the woman that brought us Twilight…

    • http://twitter.com/AntaraC Antara Chowdhury

lol I’m usually the last person to defend Stephenie Meyer, but I do think The Host deserves to be judged on its own.

      • Alex

Yeah! I know. I’m kidding of course.
It’s just that most people will see it that way.
IMO, Stephenie Meyer is the ABSOLUTE LAST person that I would trust for a good Sci-FI Thriller.
But who knows? It could be good.I mean, the trailer does,at least.

        • Maru

I’d try the book. I loathed Twilight, but I really liked the Host (enough to actually buy it and re-read it).

    • Sia

How about not judging till you actually try it !

      • Alex

        Ιs that you? :P

Great trailer. I am going to watch this movie because I’ve read the bookand it’s a great adult story. BUT where the hell did they leave Jaimie? Isn’t he a part of this movie?

    • http://www.facebook.com/emza62333 Em Filer

If they don’t include Jamie I’m going to be SO UPSET.

    • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=646371872 Elizabeth Lee Hammons

He’s mentioned on the IMDB page. He’s played by Chandler Canterbury.

    • Alcyone

There were a lot of people and scenes they didn’t include in the trailer. Doesn’t mean it’s not in the movie. I doubt they would exclude anything as important as Jamie.

    • http://twitter.com/colleen_n_west Colleen West

If you look near the 30 second mark in the trailer you can just make out Jamie’s head just over Jared’s right shoulder. #TheHost

This actually looks cool and I love Imagine Dragons!

  • Stacie

Currently in the middle of reading the book right now, so the trailer was a nice treat for me this morning.

  • lorepottter

oh damn, now i need to read the book, the trailer looks good actually

    • http://www.facebook.com/peggy.ruiz1 Peggy Ruiz

Heads up though. The first 100-150 pages are not easy to get through the first time you read it. It’s very important info, it’s just arduous. But it’s a really good book.

      • lorepottter

        thanks!!! :)

  • https://twitter.com/#!/HP4eva121995 Ally

The Host was actually a pretty good book and the trailer looks amazing too!!

  • Gary65

Not available from my location :(

I’m so excited! If you’re skeptical because the book was written by Stephanie Meyer, don’t worry. It is different than Twilight.

    • KleppMelk

It’s very different yes, but it’s still the same as it has the same form of dysfunctional romance Twilight had. I’m hoping they’ve changed the characters enough to make them likeable.

  • KleppMelk

The trailer looks great, but oh god I hated that book.
Visually this looks so much better than any image Meyer was able to conjure up in her writing. If they changed the story, like a lot, then maybe this can actually be a good movie, but I’m not counting on it as Meyer was the co-producer.

    • Sia

Your a hater ! Your one of those Potter fans who just hate her. The trailer looks great because it’s Stephenie’s story I’m sure it’s going to be a lot better since it’s a shorter version of her book which was detailed greatly and in my opinion would make a great movie.

      • KleppMelk

        All righty then…

    • Maru

I have to say, I agree that the imagery in the book was atrocious, but I actually liked the story (sans sappy romance. I could’ve done without the pages of inner dialogue about how dreamy Jared and Ian were). I liked that it actually had real conflict and moral ambiguity, as opposed to Twilight.

I’m hoping that the movie tones down the “I love you so much Jared! I mean Ian! I mean Jar-ian!” and amps up the action and the moral relativism.

      • KleppMelk

There’s plenty to pick from when it comes to moral ambiguity in both Twilight and The Host, the problem is it’s not acknowledged properly by neither characters or author, which makes me think Meyer pretty much lacks the ability to talk about serious issues like bodily autonomy, war and romantic relationships with creepy undertones (or OVERtones I should say) in a non-offensive way.

  • Elvendorr

Any video that is available in Canada?

  • http://www.korracast.com/ Fravit

Loved the book, but still not sold on the movie adaptation. With so much of the book being inner dialogue, I’m not sure really if it was a good idea to adapt this to screen at all. But Andrew Niccol writing/directing gives me hope. I just hope this isn’t another Lovely Bones.

  • popoK

Oh to be a Canadian on hypable

  • Austin Anderson

The book was so boring. Whenever I tried to read it, I could only read a few pages before I died of bordeom. But the movie looks good.

    • http://www.facebook.com/katie.c.lantz Katie Christine Lantz

It took a REALLY LONG TIME to get going, and honestly I didn’t think it ever got to a point that was super actiony. It was more about Wanda’s inner struggle about various parts of Mel’s life, blah blah blah. It wasn’t terrible read once you got past the mind numbing boringness of the beginning, though.

  • http://twitter.com/emilyecstasyTM Emily Bryan

    Damn that looks good!

  • Lucki

For anyone who can’t watch it on hypable =)

  • http://twitter.com/Fluffsy S.J.

The best thing about this trailer was the song! Imagine Dragons! <3 <3

  • AlexRaawrr

I feel like, I’m being tricked into liking this trailer by the sheer fact that I love Radioactive. It’s by far my favorite ID song.

  • http://twitter.com/Annanass777 Anna Di

Love the book, but these actors don’t fit the roles at all

…damn, and I was so excited about the movie

  • ameliapond

The guy on the left looks like a really young Jensen Ackles!

    • Sia

He Jensen Ackles little brother in Supernatural that’s funny you say that !

  • kitster_kosh

I like this book more than twilight…and I was excited for the movie…but now that I’ve seen the trailer…I don’t know it just didn’t jive with me.

  • http://twitter.com/akacj7 Caroline J.

LOTS o’ smoochin’…. they know their target audience! ;-)

  • LotusCalm

Anyone else notice the one clip that looked like the time vortex?

  • http://www.eigakanthemovietheater.blogspot.com Jenny Leigh

A part of me wishes they didn’t put Stephanie Meyer’s name, because now there is so much random hate. I own the book, haven’t read it, but I’ve been told that it’s better than Twilight by a large margin and proves that Stephanie Meyer is capable of writing substantial stories and not just teen romance crack.
I will probably read it before the movie comes out in March for sure! I’m almost to it in my stack of books.

  • http://xyue-mayx.deviantart.com/ Dreamer

the host was so much better than twilight. The movie looks like it’s good too but I’ll wait to judge until i see the whole thing of course.

  • http://hypable.com Selina

I am SO FRICKIN EXCITED this book is AMAZING (and I’m not a huge Twilight fan), asks such big questions and answers them all, and I’m sure this movie will do it justice!

  • Kay

  • http://www.facebook.com/peggy.ruiz1 Peggy Ruiz

How are they going to do the internal dialogue without it being crappy. That’s is my main concern. But this trailer looks awesome! BTW Do we know what the run time is?

  • http://twitter.com/janine_jks janine JK’S ϟ

twilight, stephenie, … dear lord. I want to see the trailer not twilight.

  • http://twitter.com/aadnama Amanda Douglas

Honestly, this was a terrible trailer. I am a huge fan of the book, but if I weren’t, I’d have no interest in seeing this at all. It was boring and made no sense to anyone who isn’t a fan of the book.

  • Sia

We all know you hating on Stephenie are Potter fans who don’t have a life and just hate her because you don’t like Twilight ! DOESN’T MATTER SHE HAS MILLIONS OF FANS AND YOU need to get over it already it’s PATHETIC !

  • Lee

    Oh my god.
