Late last week we brought you half of The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey soundtrack but was then asked to pull it down. Now, the entire score is available online for free — and legally.

Hit the play button in the widget below to begin listening. The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey’s complete soundtrack was first released by Empire Magazine earlier today. You cannot skip tracks and you must listen all the way through. However, the widget tells you which song you are on to help you keep track of your progress. The entire score is 1 hour, 45 minutes.

The score is composed by Howard Shore who also wrote all three films in The Lord of The Rings trilogy for director Peter Jackson. “I have looked forward to returning to the imaginative world of Middle-earth for quite a while,” says Shore of the score. “I read all of the books by Tolkien, including The Hobbit, when I was in my twenties, and his deep love of nature and all things green resonates deeply with me.”

Nice, but I am not going to listen to it. I always say, first see the movie or play the game and then listen to the OST’s. So you’ll have nice memories of the movie or game ;)

I’m opposite, I always like to enjoy the soundtrack before the movie comes out.

      • isenhobbitz

Me too, I like to imagine what might be going on before I have the “official” imagery.

        • hpatdh33

I do it because i never like a song on the first listen, I don’t fully appreciate it until the 4th or 5th listen. So I always time it so that my fourth or fifth ( the best one in my opinion) listen is when I see it for the first time at the theater. I did this for all of the Potters.
I regret not doing it for Argo. The song in the finale was amazing and I only realized that after I saw the movie and went back to listen to it.

ahhhh!!! Have to admit I got a little (read as ‘lot’) teary when that little bit of shire music played in the first minute. The whole soundtrack is amazing though. One of the reasons I loved LOTR so much was because the music was so good.

I think theres a TON of other people right there with you! It’s hard not to get emotional when you listen to any of this, it’s what really brings your favorite story to life :)

    • Sara

i was in class listening and i almost started crying, people were looking at me weird but whatever, LOTR is always worth it :)

  • Sminett

This is AMAZING! I love how he used some of the music from Lotr.

  • antonia31

Heads up, the pause feature seems to take me back to the very beginning. Could just be me, but be wary of pausing!

    • Sminett

      Same Here! Really annoying!

    • lego5ker

damn i did it too and then it had to load up again.

I hope they reuse the melody that plays in Fellowship and Two towers at the ending. It was Sam and Frodo’s heroic theme I guess. I don’t think it ever reached its full potential and I hope it does in this score.

wish Misty Mountainsone was longer…oh well

OMG The Hobbit soundtrack! It has arrived. Like 50% of my excitement about the movies was the idea of a new soundtrack.
