Big News

Hypable and Kaleb Nation spoke to The Twilight Saga and The Fault in Our Stars movie producer Wyck Godfrey at the premiere of Breaking Dawn – Part 2 last night and received new information on the progress of the book-to-film adaptation of the John Green novel.

“The book I most want to do right now, because I’m the closest being ready to do it, is The Fault in Our Stars,” Godfrey told us. “It is the best book, it makes you rip your guts out, it makes you want to go out and live a better life. I love it, I can’t wait to make it.”

“I’m producing it, Scott Neustadter and Michael H. Weber, who wrote 500 Days of Summer, wrote the script – it’s brilliant. I’m getting ready to hire a director, we’ve got all the actresses you would ever want to be in it want to play Hazel Grace. So I’m excited about that.”

Watch video below:

Green spoke about bringing the book to theaters in September, noting that the book’s sales numbers ignited interest in Hollywood. The story focuses on Hazel and Augustus, two cancer patients attending the same support group. While cancer is a topic of the book, the book is so much more and has received critical acclaim upon its release.

Godfrey has produced all five Twilight films. The final installment hits theaters Friday, November 16.

Who would you like to see as Hazel in the ‘Fault in Our Stars’ movie?

Check out who we think should be cast as Hazel in The Fault in Our Stars film.

  • antonia31

I love John Green. They better not screw this up for him.

    • http://www.facebook.com/milowent Milo A. Wendt

they probably will. i fully expect they go to disney world instead of amsterdam.

      • http://twitter.com/Brauercl Clinton Brauer

The Fault in Our Star Wars.

      • WeasleyWrock

You did not use your one dying Wish to go to Disney World with your parents. I can’t believe I have a crush on a girl with such cliché wishes.

      • Spencer M.

Except then they would have to rewrite two-thirds of the plot. Let’s face it, the writers probably don’t want to put that much effort into it.

    • http://twitter.com/DelenaMae Delena Obermaier

John Green has read the script and said he loved it—I trust those script writers. I mean, 500 Days of Summer was good, wasn’t it? Personally, I’m going into this with an open mind. Could be terrible, could be fantastic.

      • Shelby Walker

To me, hearing John Green say he trusts the writers and that it looks good gives me confidence in the film. We gotta have faith in this!

        • Jennifer

Don’t forget J.K. Rowling trusted the Harry Potter writers, and look how that went…but yeah, I’m optimistic about this too. And whatever happens, it’s still a great book.

          • Nick

Yeah, that went terrible, billions of dollars, hundreds of millions of happy fans, terrible.

          • Allison

Not sure what your point is, the Harry Potter films were fantastic. That is, unless you went into the MOVIE theatre expecting to watch a book, in which case I have no words for what you are.

      • Mr Kennardow

yeah, 500 Days of Summer is good, but Twilight isn’t.

        • http://twitter.com/DelenaMae Delena Obermaier

Just because he’s involved with Twilight doesn’t mean that it’s his fault they’re bad. Those movies are bad because the original source that the movies are based off of suck. The movies studios did what they could with the Twilight series. It wouldn’t matter if the best director, producer, etc had worked on Twilight—it’d still be terrible because the books are. So, I’m not gonna see it as he turns things into Twilight.

“All the actressess youd ever want to be in it” I would like it to be someone unknown.

    • Rosa

Luckily it just said ‘who want to play Hazel Grace’ so it doesn’t mean they’ll actually get the part.

    • http://www.facebook.com/milowent Milo A. Wendt

Unknown? I hope its Angelina Jolie playing a teenager.

    • http://twitter.com/samasbananas1 Samantha Reid

Yeah, I would love an unknown actress. I think it would make it feel more authentic and special. Especially if this actress has had cancer affect her life greatly :D

      • idk

I feel like Taissa Farmiga would be a good Hazel, except her hair …

  • Samantha

I’m just hesitant that anyone who had anything to do with Twilight is anywhere near anything having to do with John Green. John Green is everything that’s right with young adult literature, and Twilight is everything that is wrong with it. But maybe it will be okay.

    • alexis

I completely agree. And that was my thinking when I read the credibility statement for him. However, he did make the twilight movies a lot better/more interesting than anything they potentially could have been. He’s got magic fingers when he gets them on stuff. If they stick with a bunch of unknown actors, except like if they’ve been in minor stuff, it’ll probably one of the best movies of the decade. The book has that much potential. AND if he takes it and does something to it that shows more potential than it ever had originally (which is a hell of a lot of potential for an amazing, heart wrenching and wonderful movie of all time) then this could be the best thing in the world. But also because of that, one off/skewed/wrong decision and it could be the worst. Let’s all just hope that turning it into a movie is NOT that one decision.

    • Courtney

Too late, unfortunately! As it happens, John Green and Stephenie Meyer have the same literary agent. I know. Weird, right?

    • http://twitter.com/janine_jks janine JK’S ϟ

TFIOS Trailer: producer of ‘twilight saga’. GROSS

    • Julia

Fun fact: John Green and Stephenie Meyer are represented by the same literary agent. Meaning that the same person discovered the both of them. It seems like such a paradox.

  • alexis

THIS IS REALLY COOL. I’m gonna be super super pissed if they screw it up and don’t let John be involved with it, should he want to, but I’m actually kind of excited. I feel like they should definitely use unknown actors/actresses though. Most definitely.

  • ittakesii

I would love to see actors I do not recognize in this film. Pretty please?

  • BubbleTheNerdfightingCommenter

TFIOS is my favourite book. Ever. He better not Twilight this up.

  • Rosi

oh goash could you imagine emma watson as hazel <3

  • Theodora

Not sure who I want to play Hazel just yet, but Aaron Johnson (star of Kick Ass) would make a beautiful Augustas Waters.

  • Gracie

Nonononono. Please don’t ruin a good thing. This is my favorite book. This can’t happen.

    • Allison

Hey I have an idea! If they make the movie, you can stay home and read the book :D

  • Pigeon

People are hating on this dude because of Twilight. He did the best he could with what he had. Which, lets face it, wasn’t a lot. Give him a break. I will until he casts Augustus. Nobody can do him justice.

  • Peter

    John Green

  • Lauren

I am both terrified and extremely excited. Please, for the love of god, don’t screw with my favorite book.

  • Anna-FilmGirl

I’m usually excited for books that I love becoming movies, but…God, no. The Fault In Our Stars is my favourite book ever and I couldn’t stand it if the film didn’t do that justice. I just don’t want to see this as a film, especially without John involved.

  • jenny

i swear if they ruin this book

  • Surrahhh

I just really want to see Skylar Astin as Augustus. I think he’d be great, and I know there’s a part of the Internet that would be beyond overjoyed with that decision.

    • Samuel

      25 year old Skylar Astin?

  • Holly

They need to at least audition these two http://youtu.be/VtDldI8dduU

  • KleppMelk

Oh god… OH GOD! They better not mess this up!

  • Lucy

I’m a bit worried about the film too, but I’d really like Ellen Page to play Hazel

  • Jason

    Ellen. Page.

  • http://www.facebook.com/katelass Kathleen Lass

I have a friend who would be perfect for it. HAVE OPEN CASTING CALLS.

  • RumbleroarLuna

    Excuse me while I afidhgszfuasfih.
I want Joey Richter as Augustus and Emma Watson as Hazel. There was someone else I wanted to but now I forget. Or someone unknown. Ooh, or maybe Evanna Lynch. That would be cool… or… Lauren Lopez? I don’t know.

    • Rebekah Faith

Maybe Lo as Hazel instead of Emma or Jaime even. Of course, if they let us *starkid* fans cast the movie, it’d be a fairly British cast with the Starkids in the lead roles.

  • Alex

Probably the best book of 2012.
    Please everyone involved,make it awesome.

  • rsprague

So incredibly excited for this. TFIOS is one of the best books I’ve ever read.

  • Megushie

SUPER EXCITED! But like other commenters said, i hope they don’t ruin John’s masterpiece. He’s literally been working with this for years and spent so much time and thought on it. I loved 500 Days of Summer though

  • Kyle

John Green actually reblogged a post with this article linked in it.

  • Chicken

The only celebrity name that I associate with Hazel is Natalie Portman, because he mentions it in the book a lot. Anyway, I hope/trust that the producers will understand that The Fault in Our Stars is not like another Twilight, but it’s a more /human/ story. As long as they focus on the humanity of the story and characters, that’s fine.

  • http://youtube.com/jhubeJELLO jhubeJELLO

They should hire YouTube stars to act..

  • Penny Larrett/Earl

The Fault in Our Stars is dedicated to my granddaughter Esther Grace Earl who was a good friend of John Green and who died of Thyroid Cancer. I would love to see Esther’s spirit live on with a good young actress. My son, Esther’s father should be consulted for a choice to play Hazel Grace.

  • Jessica

This is exciting! For casting my only hope is that they get actual (or as close to actual) 16 year olds for the roles. Because of child labour laws I guess the best I could hope for would probably be 18, but still I’d hate to see them cast anyone much older than that.

  • Mickey

I want unknown actors for Hazel and Augustus more than I have ever wanted anything relating to a movie. I also want actual teenagers, but I guess that’s a little much to ask in hollywood these days…

  • sam

im so excited ;_; for the leads im not picky about hazel but grant gustin would make a perfect augustus

  • http://xyue-mayx.deviantart.com/ Dreamer

I trust that John won’t let them change major parts. There will be change but the essential will hopefully still be there and the feelings/messages will still come across.

  • demily

    Shailene Woodley as Hazel Grace!!!

  • http://twitter.com/SaraM722 Sara Rouse Martin

i would like to see dakota fanning play hazel

  • frezb

I really want them to cast a couple of unknowns as Hazel and Augustus. Having said that however I like the suggestion of someone in the comments who said Ellen Page!

  • Samuel

Chloe Moretz for Hazel perhaps? Or Dakota Fanning?

  • Diana

I would love, love, love for Chloe Grace Moretz to be Hazel. She’s got the acting chops, and she’s the right age.

  • Emily

Why did anyone other than John write the script? I really hope they consult with him.

  • Raine

  • renz

I definitely recommend Emma Roberts for the role.

  • http://twitter.com/BeccaPhoenix16 Liam I exist

They better not eff up the story, it means too much to me

  • Mia

Ugh, I really hope they don’t cast some mainstream teen idol for Hazel,

If they really do involve John Green , it would be amazing if they cast Bri Cuoco as Hazel. And she already works with Hank, so that should really happen.

And only Logan Lerman could play Augustus Waters, only him.

  • http://www.facebook.com/maddy.barnes.9 Maddy Barnes
  • http://www.facebook.com/maddy.barnes.9 Maddy Barnes
  • emer flaherty

I just hope to god they don’t get someone crap like selena gomez to play hazel.

  • DarkDefender

I just want Logan Lerman as Augustus.

  • a
  • Mimi

Nellie Veitenheimer should DEFINITELY play Hazel. They’re so alike it’s amazing.

  • holly jones

I think logan lerman should be gus or Grant gustin because they’re both young and good looking. for hazel either Chloe Moretz or lily collins. He better not ruin it like twilight.

  • http://twitter.com/Tomfom1 Tomfom

Wow, THAT’S the guy who produced the Twilight movies? An effeminate nose talking weirdo with no sex orientation what-so-ever? Who would have thought?!

  • natasha

abigail breslin should play as hazel
