Oz the Great and Powerful has been releasing new posters recently, and today they released a new and very detailed poster with a bit of a dark side!

This March, Disney will depict how Oscar Wiggs (James Franco) made his way to Oz after being caught with his hot air balloon in a nasty Kansas tornado. Upon landing in Oz, he meets the three witches: Glinda (Michelle Williams), Theodora (Mila Kunis), and Evanora (Rachel Weisz).

Featuring flying monkeys, the Oz landscape, an apparent munchkin, and much more, we can now see another snapshot into Spider-Man director Sam Raimi’s beautiful rendition of Oz.

You can watch the full trailer here, and also check out the other recently released posters and stillsOz The Great and Powerful will hit theaters on March 8, 2013.

What are your thoughts on the poster? Are you excited for another Wizard of Oz spin-off? Would you like to see more flying monkeys in this film, or are you still terrified of them from your childhood years? Do you think Franco will do a decent job portraying Oz, as well as Williams, Weisz, and Kunis portraying the witches? Leave us your thoughts below!

Thanks, Yahoo!

The flying monkey in the front looks too happy and nice. Give me the creepy ones.

Maybe the Wicked Witch of the West makes them mean and creepy? I never actually read Baum’s Wizard of Oz, just Wicked, so I don’t really know how they came to be.

Yes, it’s the Witch’s fault. She enslaves them using a magic crown (sounds weird, but it made sense in the book when I read it as a kid).

Oh cool! Thanks for answering that for me. :)

she didn’t enslave them… they were originally attached to the magic hat, whom ever uses it gets to control them 3 times… i think in the baum book she used it twice… because in a later book i believe dorothy uses it to get back home…

“You seriously want ALL of the concept art on the poster?” – “YES! Do it!”

Just my opinion, but this is a pretty horrendous poster. It’s poorly laid out and just looks really quite awkward. I’m all for colorful visuals, but I think the first poster achieved that much more successfully. Despite this, it doesn’t change how excited I am for the movie!

    Doesn’t Oz’s castle ( I think thats what it is…) look like Cinderella’s castle?

the winged monkeys aren’t horrible beasts or anything. *spoiler* they were cursed by Elphaba, due to the wizard’s trickery. YAY for Wicked references
