Now that the Star Wars franchise has been re-born thanks to Disney and Lucasfilm’s announcement last week, it’s of particular interest today that Angry Birds’ Star Wars game hit the app world.
“Rebel birds, striking from a hidden base, have won their first victory against the evil Imperial Pigs,” writes game studio Rovio. “During the battle, Rebel spies managed to steal secret plans to the Empire’s ultimate weapon, the PIG STAR, and are racing to deliver the plans to the Rebel Birds. Now they need your help!”
Angry Birds: Star Wars offers new gameplay mechanics like lightsabers, blasters, and Jedi powers that fans of George Lucas’ creation are sure to enjoy. A slew of new merchandise will be heading into stores just in time for the Holiday season including plush toys and board games.
The game is available for iOS, Android, Windows Phone, Mac, Windows 8 and Kindle Fire.
Purchase on iPhone, iPad, and Android for $2.99.
Last week George Lucas shocked the world when he announced Disney was acquiring Lucasfilm, and three new Star Wars films were in development. “It’s now time for me to pass Star Wars on to a new generation of filmmakers,” said Lucas on October 30. “I’ve always believed that Star Wars could live beyond me, and I thought it was important to set up the transition during my lifetime. I’m confident that with Lucasfilm under the leadership of Kathleen Kennedy, and having a new home within the Disney organization, Star Wars will certainly live on and flourish for many generations to come. Disney’s reach and experience gives Lucasfilm the opportunity to blaze new trails in film, television, interactive media, theme parks, live entertainment, and consumer products.”
