We all knew it was just a matter of time before Glee took on one of the biggest songs of the year. So check out this sneak peek of Glee doing the now famous “Gangnam Style” by Korean pop star PSY.

The fandom had been requesting it since the video became a huge internet sensation. Darren Criss even went as far as to praise the US for making it a hit on his official Twitter page.

Now, as a thank you to the fans for waiting for so long, Jenna, Darren and Kevin introduce this sneak peek of the dance rehearsal and filming of upcoming “Gangnam Style.”

As noted in the video we won’t expect to see this performance until the end of November – probably as part of their Sectionals routine by the looks of their performance.

Are you excited for the guys over at McKinley High School to take on the viral sensation of “Gangnam Style” or does it seem like maybe they are trying too hard to appeal to the pop audience? Either way, we’re sure to see some hilarious dance moves by the New Directions that’s for sure!

Glee will return next week on November 8 at 9/8c on Fox directly following The X Factor.

Can’t wait, so glad this awfully long break is over!!

  • abiud

¿Gangnam Style? ¿At sectionals? Are. You. SERIOUS?!

  • http://twitter.com/lost5ever mell m nathan

trying too hard to remain relevant in pop culture, i say… i’m a fan, but i’m not liking this..

  • http://twitter.com/w_lowry Will Lowry

I didn’t see Rory in the video, does that mean his return won’t be permanent (like Sam’s was)? Also it’s interesting to see that Becca Tobin is there, guess it means Kitty’s joining?

  • Kate

Zach! Wish we could have gotten a bit more Zach…

  • Diana Gutiérrez

This is SO wrong! Where is the epic Season 1 with epic and classic songs like Total Eclipse of the Heart, Imagine, Somebody to love by Queen, anything from Journey?! This is lame and pathetic… Gangnam Style, seriously? I just cannot believe how low this show has fallen… and I’m a fan!

    • kate

Gangnam Style is actually more than pretty pop culture. It’s a statement about Korean culture and societal quirks. Must we really wait 30 years for it to become sufficiently old and classic for Glee to perform?

      • GleeChatFan

Actually, many would argue that it only promotes stereotypes…

  • http://twitter.com/_unforgiven Maj Elisabeth

Do not want. But at least their outfits are pretty, I guess.

    • http://twitter.com/StarkidSims Simone

I love some of Glee’s costuming, especially the competition pieces – but I feel like they need to vary it a little, these black and gold outfits look a little too much like the Season 1 Regionals dresses. I guess black is a good idea for a group costume because it’s slimming and the colour is more likely to suit everyone? Kind of makes it easier for the tailors and makes it more aesthetically appealing.

  • mtlss

Not for sectionals! For a random episode it’s funny and all but not sectionals :(

  • http://www.facebook.com/amber.carney3 Amber Carney

This made my entire day. It’s gonna be so funny when they do this! I’m really excited! The video had me laughing like I haven’t laughed in awhile about glee lol :)

  • Shan

Not a fan of the song…especially for sectionals as I hardly think this shows their singing talent..but Darren = hilarious. As always.

    no. just no.

  • theaterboy1

I really love this song and I’m glad Glee is doing it, I don’t care where or when they perform it! Can’t wait to see it!

  • kelsey

i love glee but please not this.

  • http://twitter.com/potterfan92 Raina

I’m just glad that its only or sectionals. It could have just been another parody but done by Glee. So at least its just for competition.

  • Gary65

    Oh dear Chist above O_o

  • Jacob

Hahah I actually like this. Come on, guys. Don’t freak out. It’s a song. And it’s been so influential, they have to do it. Though I don’t think they’d perform that at Sectionals. Ryan Murphy would’ve thought that through a bit more. They’re probably wearing costumes to perform in front of the classmates, or just in general or something.

    I hope. o_O

Hmmm… what if ND loses Sectionals this year?

    • RaffC

      and the warblers win!!

In defence of choosing Gangnam Style for a Sectionals number:

    1) The Choreography is really well executed and the ‘vocals’ are on point.

    2) It’s current, popular and bound to get a lot of the audience hyped – which I’m sure judges would take into account.

    3) Perhaps they’re performing another piece for Sectionals that is a more classic/older song and they need the balance?

    4) They just won Nationals, so since NDs competition pattern for their first National win is over who says they’re going to win this Sectionals? They probably will but IF they make ND losing Sectionals a plot device they are hardly going to perform a masterpiece of a number. If they did it wouldn’t be believable that they lost. Although this is Glee so believability may not factor in.

Looks like the cast were having a lot of fun in any case :)

New Directions won’t lose. Mainly because the Glee storyline is for them to get from one competition to the next. What would be the main point of the glee club if they had no competitions to practice for?

      • Lezak

        The relationships, of course!

      • http://twitter.com/StarkidSims Simone

GOOD POINT I suppose Option 1: Considering they now have storylines outside of McKinley and they’ve lost competitions before and they’ve had non-competition based plots in the past they could probably make it work somehow. Option 2: another group drops out, is disqualified or can’t compete for some other reason and ND get to go to Regionals anyway Option 3: a complete 180 from Option 2 happens, ND gets disqualified (possibly for the lip sync thing) and the decision gets revoked for some reason and they are allowed to move forward Option: I’m totally wrong and they just flat out win (this is the most likely lol!)

        • http://twitter.com/Dillon_Mays Dillon Mays

Every time they’ve lost a competition, it was the last episode of the season. And since Regionals is in episode 8 or 9, we can assume that they’re going to Nationals again. So unfortunately, they will win. Even if we don’t went them to because of this awful choice, they will win.

          • http://twitter.com/StarkidSims Simone

Yup sounds about right. Again though, in defence- show choir is about far more than the song you choose and how you sing it – it is the performance overall.

  • t.tran

    Sounds terrible.

  • Rayne

Oh my god they’re singing in korean XD

  • http://twitter.com/Dillon_Mays Dillon Mays

This should be like Last Friday Night, I’m Sexy and I Know It, and Red Solo Cup . . . performed for fun, not for a competition where they’re going in for the National win again after already winning.

  • DJ Duncan

The worst thing to happen since Gangnam Style itself

  • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=1045615098 Riana-Tiana Menezes

I really don’t get why Americans say “GAANGnam” style when the song CLEARLY pronounces it as Gangnam Style. It just sounds so wrong.

  • rubyphoenix

Oh Darren, “Gleegnam style”. So great.

  • http://www.korracast.com/ Fravit

Wait, wait … THIS is what angers Glee fans? Gangnam Style? Really? This is the breaking point? Not the lack of a central story, or loss of it’s original vision, or any of the other number of things that has ruined Glee over the last three seasons? Glee’s integrity disappeared a long time ago. The show has never been as good as it was during it’s first 14 episodes. And Gangnam Style was all but ineveitable; no one should be surprised by this.
I, for one, cannot wait for ND to sing in Korean.

  • Mark

who are the new people in their rehearsals? i know who the current members are, but are they just filling their remaining spots for competition with extras?

  • Caitlyn

    1. How could they think that Gangnam Style is a Sectionals worthy performance?

    2. While the song is relevant now, the joke on this song will probably be up by the time the Sectionals episode actually rolls around. Its not like its a classic song that has real staying power. Is it still going to be relevant enough to be entertaining and not just annoying?
    3. Seriously, Glee? Last year, we were told that Tina would get all the solos and the first one she gets is Gangnam Style…

  • Rene

    Horrible. Absolutely horrible.

  • http://twitter.com/JessEntertainMe Jessica Cleveland

Eep! I had wish they did a more popular Korean like Big Bang (which we all know Kevin loves!) and they could have even done some of their English songs rather than try to speak/sing Korean. BUT I’m glad they are doing something that most wouldn’t.

  • Lezak

If this isn’t pandering, I don’t know what is!

  • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=1840730980 Michael Vartanian

Omg I hope they lose sectionals. That would be a first and lead to hopefully some interesting story lines down the road along with some that do not include Rachel and the gang returning to HS.

  • sy

I have a theory. What if they do this song, lose sectionals, and get to “reset” the whole structure/format of glee club as we know it? It certainly ties in with how they’re resetting all relationship statuses among the characters.

  • http://www.eigakanthemovietheater.blogspot.com Jenny Leigh

I really love this song…but I really don’t like them singing it. From what I hear, they have almost blanded it down.
This song was not made for a show choir. IMO.

  • Ev42

I’m just really curious to see how badly they’ll butcher the Korean language, to be honest XP Or if they’ve worked around that somehow, mashing the English bits with something else or something… Because man, I’m still not over Cassie’s hilarious Spanish! XP

  • Serah

    Their pronounciation is horrible

Like really, why do Americans have problem with Japanese and Korean pronounciation, yet British, Aussie and Irish people sound quite decent?

    • Sam

I’m not sure I agree with your generalization. Not all Americans have trouble with it, and not all Brits/Aussies/Irish sound that great. However, as an answer to why many Americans have trouble with many Asian accents, it’s because the American accent puts more emphasis into each letter, and we pronounce both nouns and vowels more harshly than Australians, Brits and the Irish, so it makes it harder for us to imitate softer accents than visa versa.

  • Grace

I have mixed feelings. On one hand, I feel like they’re going to botch the song (esp. the pronunciation…) On the other hand, I’m SO excited they’re finally doing more foreign music. I’m a HUGE Japanese pop/rock music fan, so the fact that they’re doing K-pop (and yes, I know, different genre, but at least it’s SOMETHING foreign that’s not too far), even if only because it became huge in the USA, is amazing.
