Halloween is less than a week away, and pop culture dwellers like ourselves are busy readying our costumes.

So which are the most popular Halloween costumes this year?

Our friends at Fandango surveyed 1,000 people who are planning to dress up during Halloween week.

Men – 2012 Characters
1) Thor (The Avengers)
2) Iron Man (The Avengers)
3) Captain America (The Avengers)
4) The Hulk (The Avengers)
5) Batman (The Dark Knight Rises)

Women – 2012 Characters
1) Catwoman (The Dark Knight Rises)
2) Katniss (The Hunger Games)
3) Snow White (Snow White and the Huntsman)
4) Queen Ravenna (Snow White and the Huntsman)
5) Black Widow (The Avengers)

Men – Classic Characters
1) Indiana Jones
2) Batman
3) Dracula
4) The Joker
5) James Bond

Women – Classic Characters
1) Dorothy
2) Cruella de Vil
3) Belle
4) Tinkerbell
5) Mad Hatter

“It was a battle of the superheroes for top costume this year and it’s fun to see the regal ‘Thor’ rising to the top of the men’s list, beating out the rest of the ‘Avengers’ crew,” says Fandango Editor-in-Chief Chuck Walton. “For women, Anne Hathaway’s sexy turn as Catwoman pushed the feline fatale back onto the list and straight to the top, besting arguably this year’s most talked-about female character, Katniss Everdeen.”

Will you be dressing up as any of these characters? If not, who will you be?

Starting this weekend and through the rest of the month Hypable will be accepting your costume pictures so we can put together a gallery post-Halloween. We’ll also be holding a costume contest so visitors can decide which costumes were their favorite for the year!

Dressing up for Halloween? Take a pic for our contest!

We want pictures of you and your pets dressed up for Halloween 2012. Learn how to submit yours!

I really want to be Belle but I can’t find a good costume anywhere :( Anyone have any suggestions as to where to find one?

    • AutumnH

if you are petite you might be able to fit into a large children’s costume form the disney store. it’ll be short and you might have to make a couple small adjustments (like cutting the shoulder straps and lengthening them with ribbon), but it should work. alternatively, i saw an amazingly subtle belle costume last year that was belle in her blue dress with white apron. the girl was with a friend who was cinderella, also in her “before” costume (house cleaning dress). super cool.

    • Molly

I had the same problem last year; none of the Belle costumes I found online were very good. I decided I’d do her blue dress and ended up making my own. I’d never made a costume before but I figured out how to use our family sewing machine, and then used a dress I already had to figure out how to shape the bodice, and then looked up tutorials for a circle skirt on youtube, made one of them and attached it to the bodice.

I’m dressing up as Katniss in her training gear. I got the red & black district 12 shirt from Hot Topic. My friend is letting me use his bow & arrow. I would have also liked to be Princess Merida from Brave, but they only sell her costume for children and I didn’t have time to make my own.

  • Rosie

I was Katniss last year! Now I’m being Number 6 from the Lorien Legacies :D

  • sammylovegood

I’m going to be Link this year!!

  • GirlWhoCriedWhenSiriusDied

My friends and I are doing an Alice in Wonderland theme and I’m the Queen of Hearts – I just finished my dress today. It should be pretty impressive as we have about ten people dressing up in our group.

  • Savannah

I’m being cat woman but last year I was Olive from Easy A, that was the best.

What’s wrong with a woman Mad Hatter? I got an IPod for dressing up as him last year, thank you very much.

      • http://www.youtube.com/mapthestars Mapthestars

Nothing wrong with it. just wondering why so many women desire to dress up like him. What’s the appeal?

i wanted to be Annabeth Chase from the Percy Jackson series, but due to lack of planning, i can’t. if i dress up for anything, i’ll probably be one of gingerhaze’s feral sweater people.

  • Anna

I’m going as myself, and when people look at me and ask me who/what I’m supposed to be, I’ll tell them: “I’m the mirror of Erised”.

    • Luna Lovegood

That is such a good idea!

  • Jael

I’m going as Lyra from the show “My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic”.

I’m also planning on going as Johanna Mason from Catching Fire next year. That way I can reuse the same costume when the movie comes out.

  • Andrew_ww

Obviously halloween costumes are far to commercial now. This is just another reason I don’t bother with it anymore. How about a costume that isn’t from a movie.
Or are these just the most popular costumes in those categories and not overall?

  • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=33411927 Ashleigh Morgan
