Fox has decided to order two extra episodes of both New Girl and The Mindy Project.

New Girl and The Mindy Project were both scheduled to have 22 episode seasons, but Fox has decided to order two extra episodes of each show. New Girl ran 24 episodes in its freshman season last fall, and it will return to that same number this year. This is the first season of The Mindy Project.

Raising Hope also got a two episode extension bringing it to 24 episodes as well.

Thanks, Deadline.

New Girl has had good ratings so far this season. It has consistently hovered around the 5 million viewers mark, similar to the latter half of season 1, but nowhere near the well over 6 million viewer mark of the beginning of season 1.

The Mindy Project has had unspectacular ratings so far. Its ratings have been around 2 million viewers per episode, but Fox has displayed confidence in the show by not only ordering a full season but also ordering these two additional episodes.

That’s great news about The Mindy Project! It’s one of my favorite shows this year, and I’m glad Fox has confidence in this great comedy. I just caught up with the last few episodes before tonight’s new episode since I had the show recorded through my Hopper’s Primetime Anytime feature. A coworker at DISH told me that once enabled, my DVR automatically records three hours of the four major networks during primetime, so I don’t need to set timers for programs on those channels anymore. I think the show will get higher ratings now it should be on at a regular time slot with the baseball playoffs over.
